My only experience with Spirit is they suck. Cheap though, so you get what you pay for.

But I guess you'd be fine if you follow proper protocol.

If it was a Boeing you'd be fine, but since it's an Airbus I think you're fucked.  That definitely affects the screening of, and checking of firearms on the plane.

Review Spirit's rules on firearms.   Pack your gear accordingly.   Do not use a TSA lock.  Arrive early to the counter to do the TSA dance when flying with a firearm.   Make sure nothing slipped into any bag you carry on.

pretty sure he's fucking with you. Aircraft type doesn't mean anything. Airline policy dictates the procedures. OP's first mistake is being so cheap that he is riding on spirit.

I flew just yesterday from NY to Florida with 2 pistols.  So far the best experience traveling with guns yet.  I had a local cop at the airport want to check me in addition to the TSA (typical) and he really liked my new Delta 10mm so we bullshitted about that.

Spirit Airlines? Any way you can put it in your carry-on bag? It might come in handy when a mob fight breaks out in-flight.

I flew into NJ with handguns on Spirit before and had no problems, now they have the police meet you to arrest you when you do

I regularly fly to Vegas on Spirit, and check my handgun. Has to be in a strong locked case, cabled to the inside of the suitcase. Ammo needs to be in original boxes, or an ammo case, and packed separately into your bag.  I use something like this case:

Spirit is somewhere between a flying greyhound bus and a flying 3rd world train.   Pay for all the bags you could possibly need online, and make damn sure to weigh them.  Get there early, 'cause its going to suck anyway, and suck doubly since you have to check a gun.

Here's the policy on it:

"4.1.1.17.
Firearms
Spirit Airlines will allow customers to transport firearms in accordance with applicable regulations. Except for personnel authorized by the federal government, the following conditions must be met: (i) firearms are accepted as checked baggage only, (ii) firearms must be packed in a hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm; a locked hard-sided gun case; a locked hard-sided piece of luggage.  A handgun packed in a hard-sided gun case may be packed inside a soft-sided piece of luggage. A Conditional Acceptance Tag must be used in this case.

Firearms may not be checked curbside. No one under 18 years of age may check a firearm. A customer who presents baggage containing a firearm must declare that the weapon is unloaded. Baggage containing firearms must be locked at all times and the key or lock combination retained by the customer. A Firearm Declaration form must be signed and placed on the outside of the locked case containing the firearm. Ammunition must be packed in the original manufacturing package or metal/wood box, with a maximum of 11 pounds per customer.   Loose ammunition or clips will not be accepted. Spirit Airlines allows only one (1) checked firearm per gun case per customer.NOTE: Firearms are NOT permitted to/from international  destinations. "

It's not the firearms check that will be an issue. They can only serve snails and frog legs as snacks on Airbus flights and they will pat you down to see if you're smuggling in a packet of cashews or beef jerky.

Make sure they can't pry your case open. Glock has cost me $50 having to buy a new case from Frontier with the shitty plastic case my gun came in was able to be pried open by the customer service rep.

I use a 30 cal ammo can and a short length padlock now through the hole in the handle and the little metal clip below it. Works really well and the carry handle can have a cable lock run through it to secure it to your suitcase. Stuff some foam into the ammo can and it works really well.

Make sure you follow the airline's rules (sometimes different from airline to airline) when packing ammo and such. Some allow it in magazines in holsters, some require the ammo in boxes, some require the ammo in the locked case and some outside. It even varies from airport to airport, some DGAF and some mess with you like you are a jihadi.

Check out how this guy does it:

Well, at on time I felt the same way. Over the years though my perception of the issue has changed and I no longer feel that way. You, on the other hand, have done things that no man should do. When it's all said and done I believe that you'll reevaluate your position and see things my way...or maybe not. Only time will tell.

Hope this helps.
