Are you an gun snob?
Took the day off work to do shit i wanna do for a change, and went to the range to enjoy shooting amongst retirees. Just my luck, tacticool assholes are there instead. You know the kind, off duty cop wannabes. Mother fuckers. I walk up to the line with my rifle i built awhile ago. They're doing their cute little drills and the classic "bring pistol to chest, scan both sides" bullshitery. As soon as i sit down one of the guys walks straight up to me and starts eye raping my rifle. "Oh, frankengun, i had one of those once, I won't own anything but colt now". CSB, IDGAF. I go and lay some sheets of notebook paper on the 50 yard berm, my favorite thing to shoot at. They offer a silhouette target if i had a dollar (wtf?) and i declined. So i empty a mag at the sheets of paper and they are bouncing and drifting all over the berm like i like and tearing into smaller pieces. Then i pull out my ruger mk iii. One of them yells over "we have some bigger targets and a frame if you need it". I guess they thought I wasn't going to shoot a 22 pistol at a 50yard piece of paper, but i did. I was making the paper dance around the berm until it they were shot up so bad they wouldn't get off the ground again, then i started to pack up to leave. Of course, one of them has to come over and ask about the pistol. It's just your basic nothing fancy mk iii, i did remove the mag disconnect, but that is all. Soon as he sees what it is, tells me i should of bought the smith and wesson m&p 22 whatever its called, and started bitching about how hard it is to clean the mk iii. I proceed to fully disassemble and reassemble in about 6 seconds. I didn't say a word. Just packed up and left. In b4 the pole |

Last time I went to a public range (something I rarely do), I was testing out ammo in my Hotchkiss Portative.
Shot a few rounds on semi first and the ninjas didn't notice until I flipped the lever to auto and started blowing through strips. Well, after that the dudes a few lanes over (with gopros, gloves, etc) started hovering around me while I was trying to shoot, mess with the gas regulator, etc. Then came the usual talk about how they are going to convert their stuff to full auto, they just need need to "get around to paying the tax stamp". Then they asked if they could shoot it and I said "sure, if you have any .303 British", which made them angry for some reason. |

No, but I'm turning into an optics snob.
Can't stand cheap glass and I'm willing to spend more on the scope than the rifle. Wasn't always that way. I used to think Bushnell was plenty good enough. Now I will only buy scopes and binoculars with lenses hand polished by Tibetan monks using only the rarest oils of the pearl of Gandoon. |

I think the worst thing I've said about somebody else's gun was "I don't care for it."
Everybody has their reasons for buying what they bought. Hell, I even used an Aim Sports fixed power scope when I didn't know the first thing about good glass. I bought it because I was being cheap and frankly didn't know better. Now I'm a bit of an optics snob. |

Yes,I am a gun snob but just because I own a P7 and Python doesn't mean that I won't also own a Ruger P series or DPMS AR. Likewise,I think the TPH is a sublime little jewel and that the $800 it cost NIB was a bargain but also have a Lorcin because of how awful it is.
Gun shop commandos and range know-it-alls don't bother me,there are people like that in every realm whether it's spec sheet riding motorcyclists or fishermen...whatever. I let people shoot my guns all the time,it's no big deal. 9mm etc I don't care about but won't load a full mag of 5.7 and usually most people are content with just a couple milsurp rifle rounds anyway. |

Not really, but I laugh at the people with some $300 potmetal special who say it's their apocalypse rifle who proudly claim they're shot 300 rounds through it over the span of a year in an indoor range so its "Really abused and proven to be 100% reliable". I can tell if a rifle I built is reliable in 300 rounds based on parts used, fitment, and function. |

I'm not a snob... I really couldn't give a shit less what someone else wants to own/carry/shoot. I have my preferences and they have theirs... lots of great firearms out there that work and shoot incredibly... but they're just not for me.
I usullay mind my own business at the range and don't think I've ever said anything(negatively)to anybody regarding their guns. |

As soon as he mentioned Colt, you should've punched him in the throat, fucked everyone else there and wiped your shit covered dick on the door handles of whatever faggotmobiles they were driving. |

I'm only snobby if you use total shit parts/optics/accessories and then proceed to claim it is just as good as good shit (sorry, your Carbon15 with its sun optics scope isn't as good as a Noveske with an ACOG).
Anddddd that's how I got banned from the arfcom FB group

Let's bring back "Retro Manners." This is the idea of "If you don't have anything good to say....say nothing." In the past, men with manners never spoke ill of another man's: Car Gun Dog Wife Please note these are in no particular order So, we should work on manners ETA: OP, when he committed about your "Franken-carbine" your comeback should have been--yea, if I didn't have any mechanical skills & wanted shitty Customer Service, I'd buy a Colt, too. But I got exactly what I needed because I made it, now fuck off. |

Kind of confused about your method of range etiquette. So you just let paper fly around loosely from lane to lane shooting it as it goes?
But to answer your question, I am kind of a snob but hide it. Like others have said I like to build my own guns and kind of look down on those who can't/don't. Same with being a glass snob, yes I will spend more money on glass than the gun is worth and not think twice. ETA: Hit the local range up this past Sunday and I/my group were the only ones there. It was magical. |

Colt.
I'm a snob with my own stuff, but only because if I spend that kind of money, I'd rather be buying high quality stuff. If somebody has a DPMS or whatever, and they are happy with it, good. Screw anyone that acts like they are superior because they have a "better" rifle. |
| One time I had the white version of the UBS guy from Mad TV ask me if I had a Gerber tool to get his AR running again, I chose to let him use the free-gift-with-purchase USA hunting and fishing tool plasticky piece of shitfrom the bottom of my range bag just so I could see the disappointed look on his face. |
|
I usually take an M&P Sport (my only AR, topped with a Bushnell red dot) a WASR (my only AK) and either my Mosin or my Yugo M24 Mauser to the range. I have no room to gun snob. I've also never said a bad word about someone elses gun, unless I'd shot it and didn't like it. As far as I'm concerned, if your AR has a dust cover and a FA, it's probably more robust than mine. Ditto your vortex optic.
All that said, I've seen enough people shoot poorly with REALLY nice guns to know that it's the indian, not the arrow. EDIT the first time I disassembled my Ruger MkII, it wound up going to the LGS in a ziploc bag carried by a very shamefaced owner. |
