After watching Alien: Covenant in the theater, girlfriend and I watched the first "Alien" at home, and then the second one "Aliens". When we got to "Alien 3" - I thought WTF this is an abortion. talk about franchise killer. Anyone here actually like that movie?

It was exactly a franchise killer...

Totally Fncked up what could have been an epic Aliens 3 (Survivors on a Prison Planet trying to warn the unbelieving warden and guards about the Sh!t about to come 'round...

It was an abortion and I don't consider it canon to the story.

Im a fan but I love the Aliens franchise anyway. I think they're all at least descent with the exception of the First Alien Vs Predator.

I have to say that this newer Alien was disturbing on the Character of David. A very creepy weird dude, genocidal undertones not withstanding

No. The only one of all the "Alien" series of movies that I thoroughly liked and enjoyed was "Aliens." The rest, not so much.

3 really isn't that bad.  Go watch 4 if you think 3 is bad.

I had never watched it and saw Joss Whedon's name attached to it.  So I watched it leading up to Covenant being released.  Holy.....  I think Sigorney just totally phoned it in by that point.

Alien 3 is severely underrated.

I like it.

It's under rated. Good character actors, good script. Different.

Just a different kind of film from aliens.

Charles dance, Brian glover, Danny webb, Pete postlethaite and ralph brown. Great cast.

Was she responsible for the lack of guns in the first "Alien" movie? Because that is the single thing that made that movie royally suck arse. Add guns to "Alien" and it would have rocked.

I doubt it but the sequel she is on record saying the use of guns in the movie made her uncomfortable. She was a producer on the third movie and she was a big reason why Alien 3 had little to no gun action.

I feel the opposite, I thought 4 had a redeeming comic book style to it.
More sci fi less horror. 3 I just thought was "yaawwwwn"

I did like the SciFi part of it.  The cloning arc was awesome. The movie had so many possibilities and things going for it.

But thats where the positives ended and a truckload of negatives started piling up.  In the end, I'm not even sure the production was worthy of a SyFy channel exclusive.

Alien 3 was supposed to be "aliens come to earth".  The alien pictured with the film were supposed to be some dolphin-alien that happens after the Sulaco crashes into the ocean.

I remember hearing years ago how it would've run wildly overbudget and was repackaged into the shit that it came out as.

It's better than the one with Winona Ryder, but that's sort of like saying "ebola with bird flu and dengue fever is better than ebola with swine flu and dengue fever".

Remember that part in Alien 3 where the bald prisoner (forget his name) gets killed by the alien?  That part was awesome.

It was seriously a terrible movie and fucked up the outcome of one of the best movies of all time.

I watched Alien with my daughter for the first time this week and plan to watch Aliens after that.  Alien 3,4 will not be allowed.  :)

And your probably right about the last part there.
For the record I find 4 only slightly more tolerable than 3, but still more tolerable.

Alien is a good flick and kicked off what could have been an awesome franchise.
Aliens fricken delivered!

I liked it but then again I've only watched the Assembly Cut.

I think it holds it's own against Alien and Aliens just fine.  I can understand why people are disappointed that it wasn't "Aliens Part 2" or how they wish the series went another direction but on it's own it's actually a pretty good movie in it's final form.

It's a troll attempt.

Like all the other people saying they liked Alien Resurrection.

It's like going into a Star Wars thread and talking about how Empire Strikes Back needed pod racing to make it exciting or something.

No it isn't. James Cameron ruined the franchise before it ever was a franchise.

Deal with it.

You know I watched alien this weekend because I saw covenant last weekend.

I liked it so much more.  Even with the dated outlook on future space travel.

Best parts of Alien are what made Ripley such an awesome heroine.

Almost all of it is believable. Even the stupid decisions of the Captain and the deception of the Science officer.

Covenant didn't compare and I liked it even more than Aliens but I still like Aliens.

I used to dislike Alien3 until I went back and watched The Director's Cut.  I totally transformed the movie in my eyes, and is the version that should have been released.  It is much better.

Alien Resurrection is an abomination, and not even a real movie.  More like a series of scenes shown in sequential order.  The only good thing in the whole movie is the Betty ship.  The rest is a horrible attempt at a movie, much like the worst of the clones that Ripley destroys.

Saw Alien Covenant this weekend.  It was better than Prometheus, but that ain't sayin' much.  Had some downright awful scenes, like the ghey pan flute scene.  It tried hard though, it really did.  Alien and Aliens are really all you need.

He, along with the cast made it salvageable.

The writing and technology hurt the film.

It's just like the art direction made Resurrection nice to look at.

Want some craziness?  Look online for the "original" Alien 3 script - there's a couple of different versions floating around.  Could have been awesome...could have been a total mess...

The director's cut is better but still a franchise killer. Hollywood should look at ALIEN: Isolation for inspiration on what a good scary ALIEN film should be.

It was a crappy movie, but still better than Prometheus or Covenant from a character/story standpoint.

Ignoring that Alien 3 was supposed to be on Earth and be much bigger and better yes Alien 3 is good.  Very good in fact.  Even better in the extended cut.  Taking that into consideration it is disappointing but still good.  Considering Covenant is probably the worst movie I have ever seen Alien 3 would be a masterpiece in comparison.

It was fine.  Not my favorite one, but it was entertaining.  One and two are still the best.

I think the only ones I haven't seen are Alien 4 and Covenant.
