I just went outside and dang near stepped on this little guy. I thought he was a worm at first. I know the pictures are bad but its the best I could get in the dark without basically putting my lens on him.

Any idea as to what kind of snake it is? Ive lived at this home in north east Georgia for six years and have only seen two black snakes and thats been it.

Would like to have better pics of the head but likely an Earth Snake.

ETA: Looking at it some more I might actually lean towards a Brown Snake.

He eats roaches, lizards, insects, and various other invaders of your property. He is a good guy.

I think it is a Storeria decayi (Decay snakes). The area seems right... mine were brownish grayish. These are the kind I had for pets... they loved small brown slugs, wouldn't touch larger yellow slugs. They will also go for earthworms (redworms) you can buy at bait stores. They may eat some insects in a pinch.

We called them sand snakes growing up. Which reminds me that I haven't seen one in years.
