Are the vortex magnifiers and red dots any good ?
I have been looking online at them and was thinking of buying. |
My lil bro dropped my AR on Easter and my pawn shop purchased Strikefire 1 shifted zero about a foot at just 10 yards. Buttons seem a little screwy now too. Haven't bother contacting Vortex yet-I'm lazy Alas, I've only ever heard good things about their products and would buy more stuff from them.
|
| I have a Sparc 2 on my Viper spotting scope and I like it a lot. I have some Viper 15x50 binoculars and 1500rangefinder too. I like all the stuff I have gotten with one exception. I got a different tripod for the spotting scope. Started with a Pro GT and switched out to a Manfrotto 055 tripod with a 502 video head. Its smooth as silk, tilting and panning. The vortex tripod was ok, but the Manfrotto makes it more fun. |
|
I've neglected/beat the ever loving shit out of my Sparc AR and magnifier. Still holding the original zero, still magnifying. I'm a hunting guide for pigs, bear, deer and turkey. My rifle rides around strapped to the front of a quad for hours getting vibrated and smacked by limbs.
With the exception of the Burris AR536 Fastfire rebate, I haven't bought any optics other than Vortex in a few years. Just traded that 536 for a Viper 2.5-10x44 as well |

The only Vortex thing I have is the Sparc ar PSA had on sale a couple weekends ago. Seems alright except it won't power off by button. Not a big enough deal to ship it in for warranty but not a good intro to the brand. |

Wife likes her Strikefire 2 just fine. I just wish Vortex red dots had Aimpoint-like battery life.
And while Vortex is in the thread, I also wish the Razor HD2 1-6x I sold hadn't been so heavy. Y'all need to find a way to shave some weight off that sumbitch. Would've been the perfect scope if not for that. |
| I have the VMX3 and use it with an Eotech and a SPARC. It works very well with both. I have 6 vortex riflescopes, a spotting scope and a pair of their binos. I have not been disappointed or regretted purchasing of any of them. I have one riflescope and my binos are the diamondback line. The spotting scope is a lower end one, (I can't remember the name) but everything else is Viper PST. Buy with confidence. |

I have 4 vortex red dot sights and have been quite pleased with all of them (two MRDS Venoms, two SPARC ARs) and they all seem to be holding up well...
One SPARC is on a BCM upper, One on a MP 15-22 that goes to the range every time. The Venoms are on my Glocks, one Jagerwerks milled slide, one MOS gun... Zero problems. |
| I have three spitfires, all three are not babied, and haven't given me a single problem in the several years I've had some of them. I intend to continue buying them for all my 1x red dot needs. Keep in mind, the prism red dots wont work right with a magnifier, something to do with the way the prism is designed. I don't think that's just a vortex prism thing, I think it is typical for all prism sights. |

Ain't that the truth? I remember them being the big dog in the market. Now it seems they are just a has-been. Quoted:

| My first experience with Vortex was the Strikefire. I thought it was cheap Chinese junk. The lens was dark as hell and the buttons were superglued on and not intuitive. Unfortunately this kept me from buying other Vortex scopes for several years, when pretty much all their other scopes are much higher quality. Now I have a Sparc AR and I love it, but I am glad I got rid of my Strikefire. The new Strikefires are probably better, but the one I got was garbage (it was one of the red/green dot ones). |

I have a strikefire II. Only used it a couple times so far. Not bad.
I almost got a pst this past week but ordered a viper hst 6-24x50 instead as it was more in my budget, and got their seekins vortex mount. It should be here tommorow for my 6.5g. and it was what vortex suggested and a few here thought it would work just fine for me. |

Usually when that happens the battery is low. Try changing it out and see if that fixes it.

. Works great when I use it properly.
