I've been using Google Drive for a few years now, just mainly for pictures and other non-critical things. I've been thinking about putting some of my finance and other personal records and spreadsheets on Google Drive in order to have a backup of them in case my PC dies, or my backup hard drives die, or a tornado hits my house, or one of many other things that could destroy my data.
How safe and secure is Google's Drive up in "The Cloud"? |

They'll read your files and use whatever info they can glean to serve you relevant ads and build a profile on you.
As far as will they loose your data accidentally somehow? Most likely not. If your data is subpoenaed for whatever reason will they hand it over faster than hot potato? absolutely. Does the NSA have access to all this through Google? most likely, but who's to say. Do I personally use Google Drive? Yep, for a lot of things. themoreyouknow.jpg |
Encrypt your sensitive files if you feel paranoid. Secure your Google account with 2-factor authentication via FIDO U2F key (what I use). Good enough unless you're worried about a nation-state stealing your shit - in which case you have bigger things to worry about.
