That being said, I have my doubts as to whether we can pull it off. Americans, right and left, are a hardheaded bunch, and precious few are willing to cross the dividing line. The America we knew may well be gone forever, and our future will probably be determined by whoever rises from the ashes after the inevitable confrontation. The constant bickering and stubborn reluctance to accept any of an opponent's views as shown in these threads are actually a pretty fair analogy to the way things are going in the real world... and our chances of coming through it unscathed are about as great as Expy and Hugh exchanging a big sloppy kiss. 
Not that I'm preaching compromise. I'm unwilling to accept my opponent's views too. Socialism in all its disguises must be eliminated from our social and political landscapes, because it is fundamentally incompatible with the principles of independence and accountability the nation was built upon.
