What's the general opinion on these? I put one on layaway at the pawn shop. Stainless model 1500 in .308 with the shorter 20-inch bull barrel. Comes with Hogue rubber stock. I figure a good bolt-action .308 is not a bad thing to have.

My wife has a 1500 in 25-06, loves it.  Fun and accurate.

I believe Howa and weatherby are same same, and everyone knows weatherby makes great guns.

Good shooter. For me, the trigger felt just a little better than the other rifle I was looking at, which was the Tikka.

Weatherby Vanguard pattern. I have had one in .30-06 since '01 and the only issue I've had is a broken spring on the bolt release. Easy fix.

I had a How's 1500 chambered in 308 with the Axis stock on it. No complaints. From everything I've read they're basically the same as their Weatherby counterparts.

I got a nice 7mm mag howa for sale in the EE.

Nice solid rifles with great triggers out of the box. 7mm mag with an 18x scope is just over kill for the range I shoot.

The Weatherby Vanguard is a rebranded Howa 1500.

And yes, either are very nice rifles.

I have had a few hunters use them and seemed to be pretty good rifles.

I had one in 308. I liked it. I just had no need for it. What I needed was a threaded barrel 308 and it was easier to sell the Howa and get what I wanted.

I've got a stainless .300 WSM.  Excellent gun and action is much smoother than on my Remington 700 PSS.

Howa has a reputation for making good guns, as long as they aren't the military battle rifle that likes to disassembly itself

My 1500 is chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. I bought it the day I turned 18. By far the smoothest bolt gun I own. I am planning some upgrades to mine soon. New scope, trigger, chassis and possibly a new barrel if the orginal one can't be threaded. You definitely made a good choice!
