I believe that a virus is hiding my wifi from me. I can connect with the cable but not with wifi on my personal laptop. When I look at the available networks it shows all of my neighbors just not mine? My work laptop shows the router and works fine. I have google for my provider and router and a Dell laptop with Windows 7.
I used Adaware se or whatever it is now to delete something and then noticed that my wireless wouldn't work anymore. Also in my list of programs (where you can delete them) 4 Intel things all show that they were installed that day. I am afraid to delete those incase they are needed. I don't know if they are real and just updated or fake or corrupted or what. Please help me. |

Need to post your make and model of router, what wireless card is in your personal laptop, and maybe what's in your work laptop. My guess is your personal laptop is 2.4GHz only, work supports 5GHz, and your router has the same SSID on both bands. Neighbor put his WiFi right on top of your 2.4GHz band, so now your laptop can't see it or gets confused and picks the stronger signal. Should have tried it right next to your router. Never heard of a virus which hides *one* SSID. You're barking up the wrong tree - first fix what you fouled up, then try to fix the real problem. |

OP, when was the last time you "saw" your network on your laptop? |

I have had this computer for maybe 3 years and it had been working fine until the other day. I have rebooted it several times. I have reset both Google boxes several times as well. |

Does your wireless utility show the channels in use? I still suspect a channel conflict. Is your laptop showing ANY wireless networks now or none at all? If any, stop changing things on the laptop as it's probably working.... |

Sounds like you may have changed what manages your wireless network adapter. It's either windows or proprietary software. ETA: Or does your computer have an external on/off switch for the wireless adapter you may have inadvertently turned off? Quoted:

What do you mean by putting it on top of mine. I am not a computer savvy person. I have no idea. I had a hit on my virus malware software and I noticed the wifi problems shortly after that . They may not be connected at all. |

I've done that a few times. Have mine on 5G only at home, forget to change to 2.4 when away from home and go into full on troubleshoot mode.
OP, when was the last time you "saw" your network on your laptop? Network worked fine until 4/30. Same day my Intel stuff all shows installed/updated which is either virus or auto updated which I can't tell the difference. Actually I am seeing a conflict now. Under Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features All 9 Intel listings show installed on 9/5/11 I guess I have had this more than 3 years. Under CCleaner -> Tools -> Uninstall Intel(R) Rapid storage Technology Intel(R) Processor Graphics Intel(R) Management Engine Components Intel(R) Control Center These 4 show install dates of 4/30/17 They are among the 9 listed above. They also have the same version numbers listed as installed on 9/5/11. Why would there be conflicting info there? |

I can see mine on our other computers and the kids iphones ipads xbox1 etc. I though it might have been a bug that hid my router from view but I can't figure out where to look or how to do/undo that if so. I am thinking that isn't it though since we can see it on other devices. I have not made any changes before or after the issue. I am just looking around at the settings etc. |

OP can you update the Intel wireless drivers? I did find some similar reports to yours by googling "intel wifi ssid disappears" and driver update/reinstall seemed to be the fix.
You'd need probably a utility like inssider to see which channels your neighbors networks are on, but the Intel WiFi utility might do it. I don't have any machines with that card or the Intel utilities any longer, so I can't really talk you through it. Likely your router defaults to channel 6, as do several of your neighbors. Some odd interference may be happening that confuses your Intel card now. If your drivers are from 2011 there have probably been a LOT of changes. If you had two neighbors on the same channel and now there's a third for instance, that could do it. Changing the channel on your router might fix it, or might just move the problem https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26094/Wireless-Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-7-?product=59481 |
