Wonder if someone is going to be in trouble. The call was from their trace center, and they wanted info on a handgun that I received on my 03 (C&R) FFL back in 2007. Presumably it's a gun that was stolen or used in a crime or something like that. They gave me the serial number and model, and the dealer that sent it to me. So I went and looked it up in my bound book. ... slight problem: Although I've received two of those types of guns, both were in 2009, and neither were from that dealer. I have purchased other things from that dealer in the past, but not that type of gun. Sounds like their records are all fucked up. Wonder if the ATF are going to climb up their ass for it. |

We get calls for traces all the time that are not even CLOSE to anything we've ever had.
This is the first time I've ever gotten a call for a trace, being a C&R guy (and still own the vast majority of the ones I've acquired). |
| I had a good friend who bought a fair number of firearms through me, but he passed away in 2014. Since then, I get a LOT of trace calls on firearms from his collection, so I presume his kids/ex-wife are either getting them stolen or selling them off in shady deals. |

Surprise! Bureaucrats aren't held to the same standard they hold us to. Quoted:

There was a short period awhile back where we were getting called for traces on at least a weekly basis. Luckily our records were pristine, but sorting through thousands of 4473s was a bit of a pain in the ass, especially when they are up in storage. |

A dealer shipped an FFL item directly to my house a few months back. I found out when LGS called my cell to ask why I had an ACOG shipped to them. |
| I get calls every once in a while and I don't sell a lot of guns, but invariably it is about one of my personal guns that I sold to a friend or through the local nickle paper which I always run 4473 when I sell a gun, not often do I ever get to know why they were inquiring. |

What if your stalker IS atf, and he's just fucking with you? Quoted:

No kidding. For a second, when I saw a voice mail from the ATF in my call log, I wondered if my internet stalker had somehow tried to fuck me over with the NFA or something.

A dealer switched labels on an ACOG and a rifle once, shipped the ACOG to the LGS while UPS left the rifle in its telltale long brown box on my front porch. While the house was empty for a week while wife and I were hundreds of miles away in Ohio on vacation. I found out when LGS called my cell to ask why I had an ACOG shipped to them. |

And in original configuration. A milsurp WWII Mauser? C&R. Sporterized, rebarreled WWII Mauser? Not a C&R. Quoted:

What qualifies as a C&R? A milsurp WWII Mauser? C&R. Sporterized, rebarreled WWII Mauser? Not a C&R. From the ATF website: "The definition for curio or relic (“C & R”) firearms found in 27 CFR § 478.11 does not specifically state that a firearm must be in its original condition to be classified as a C&R firearm. However, ATF Ruling 85-10, which discusses the importation of military C&R firearms, notes that they must be in original configuration and adds that a receiver is not a C&R item. Combining this ruling and the definition of C&R firearms, the Firearms Technology Branch (FTB) has concluded that a firearm must be in its original condition to be considered a C&R weapon." At my last audit by the BATF, the agent noted that I buy and sell a lot of sporterized mil-surp rifles and made sure I understood this detail of the law. It bugs me as I see many, many rifles sold as C&R, but those auctions/shops have a different person from the BATF auditing them.... |

MY dealer got a call about a stripped lower I bought back in 07, (I bought a 3 pack at the time). only problem is I had 2 of the 3 in my safe and the third was sold to and still in the possession of a guy im good friends with. I was like WTF!?!? when my dealer called me about it but nobody called me ever. was weird |
