There is a discussion on the .22 sub-forum in the Armory section about .22 snap caps. A member (mcornell) recommended Hillman 4-6-7/8" ribbed wall anchors.

I ordered some on the outside chance that they would work and damn was I surprised.....They worked great!

I even got one round to feed from a box mag (one was all I tried) in a couple of my older/slicker .22 Mossberg 42 MBs. They also eject just fine from those and my bolt action match rifles. A match chamber does not seem to present any issues.

The one 10-22 I tried them in was a "bridge to far" for ejection.

They can take some serious abuse too. They act much like the Annie snap caps in that regard. I got a good dozen solid hits around the "rim" till I had to discard one and even then there was no signs of the "rim" cracking like those orange pachmayr .22 snap-cap abominations and they are much more economical that Annie or Parker-Hale snap-caps if you can find them.

At $6.45 shipped for 100 off of eBay it's the Deal of the Day.

It's supposed to be common knowledge among .22 enthusiasts but I must have missed the memo.

A properly designed gun shouldn't let the firing pin come into contact with the breach face.

However, if there's concern, why not just use a spent case?

Spent cases are free and when pounded out just go in the brass bucket .

Wut? The .22 world does not revolve around the 10-22....Maybe sloppily chambered rifles are what you meant.

Spent cases are a PITA to chamber (no pointy end) as opposed to a snap-cap of any type.
