I've always wondered this too. You always hear in movies where someone mentions distances on a mapped area in terms of "clicks", but I've never known if it is a real term that is used anywhere but the movies.

Depending on the scope or iron sights it could also be 1 MOA.

Its not "click" it's "klick". Military slang. Same thing as saying "mike", as in "Please hold four mikes" meaning wait four minutes...

It's the actual unit of measure 1 Kilometer.

And Mike can mean millimeter as well 40 Mike Mike lol lets stir it up.

Well, Kilometer was shortened to K then that was modified in military tradition to something totally unrelated to anything else like klick. lol

I am not sure of the precise etymology of hte term, but I believe it derives from some sort of map measuring device (1 click=1 kilometer on map) While this is merely speculation, it would make sense, as that is how some other terms have been derived...

A "klick" is short for kilometre. A kilometre is 0.621 of a mile. If you mulitply the distance in miles by 1.6 that will give you the distance in kilometres. I hate the metric system but when maps are marked off in grid squares that represent 1000 metres on the ground what are ya gonna do?
