For practicality, the MP5 for sure.
For investment, I don't know. There is a lot more room for an MP40 to rise in value than a MP5 (which is already at the time end of the subgun market.) I don't know how much more the MP5 can go on an inflation-adjusted rate. And lets not forget that you can get 2 MP40s for the price of one MP5 with sear pack. But what do I know... I have a M10. |

I've played with both (don't own any NFA items so big grain of salt).
First off, both are Great, and are the top 3 of the SMGs I've shot (the other member being a Colt SMG). I'd go MP5 just for the advancements, and the availability of parts. MP40 is still a great SMG though (and appears cheaper). Either would put a big smile on my face. |
