Has it ever fixed anything ?
Or is it a giant waste of money ? |
|
Yeah it works.
1985 CR125R. The water pump cover / housing had broke and cracked. Formed a new piece with jb weld and was able to win the 125cc Supercross championship!!11!! Ok, so I made up the part where I won a championship. But it does work and I did fashion a 1/4 of a piece I needed. It lasted for a couple years u til I sold the bike . |

My brother had a Ford Fiesta a first gen one. It was modded to hell I the 80's. It ran high 14's iirc. That was insane in the 80's. He finally broke a piece in the front and it hit the transmission. Busted a fucking hole in it. Like a dumbass he maxed his fucking credit card out at age 22 and could not afford to fix that.
So he used JB weld and a piece of wood board to fill the hole in the trans. It worked long enough for a trade in. |

I'm a welder. You bring me something that you tried to fix with that shit and it's going to cost you extra for me to clean that garbage off so I can fix it right. <<<<<<<<<<<<TiG welding don't like no epoxy shit |

I fixed a hole in a old car's gas tank with it and when I sold the car a couple years later it was still holding gas. I have an old tractor that was getting big rust flakes and other crap from the bottom of the tank down into the fuel line and stopping it up. I drilled several small holes in a piece of stainless tubing and JB Welded it in the fuel fitting so the crap off the bottom of the tank didn't get sucked in the fuel line. It's still there 13, 14 years later.
I used often but those two stand out as not only were they holding years later, they held all that time in gas. |

Previous oil change was done at another shop, they glopped the plug threads up and pushed the plug in. She came to me, didn't mention it(probably didn't know). I put a wrench on the plug, broke the JB, and the plug just fell out. |

Ten or fifteen years ago there was a plaque over the Support service counter of the 4th Aircraft Maintenance Unit that displayed an AC-130U model hydraulic line a (very former) aircraft mechanic had fixed with JB Weld. Story was the aircraft had flown several times with that repair... |

As in other examples, it is a good "filler" that will bond permanently if the surfaces are prepared properly. It is NOT a "weld" despite the name and will only efeectively bond two pieces if there is a mechanical connection as well. Also, it Should not be subjected to high stress so don't use it to try to repair items like a cracked receiver or damaged chamber.
I have used it with great success to fill the void between SxS barrels after cutting them down to CoachGun configuration and to repair original Cobray m9/11 magazine feed lips. I also used it to fix a stripped action to stock bolt connection. It has held up solid but I don't think I could ever remove the stock from the action again without redoing it. It has it's uses but is not a fix-all for everything. |

Like the customer I had two days ago for an oil change, and her drain plug was held in by it? Previous oil change was done at another shop, they glopped the plug threads up and pushed the plug in. She came to me, didn't mention it(probably didn't know). I put a wrench on the plug, broke the JB, and the plug just fell out. |

I was 18 and patched a water manifold on my budget ski boat. Right side manifold on the 1978 305 Chevy engine had rusted through at the corner. I ground it down to clean steel in the boat and the JB glob patch held for 10 years!
Ever since then JB weld has been good in my book. |

Timely thread, I just used some JB a few minutes ago on a cast pin that was broke. It was only being used to plug a hole so it should work just fine as there is no stress on it.
It beat me looking hither and yon for something of like size to replace it or to fashion another pin. JB also works great to repair pin holes in old metal oil lanterns. I use one cat-fishing that I repaired some pin holes in the tank 20 years ago and it does not leak to this day. I've repaired many a old lantern that way. |
| If you put a blob of it on your AR's dust cover you will be inventing the greatest AR modification known to man, for determining an out of battery condition. It's SO revolutionary Eugene Stoner should have thought of it himself. But be careful it maybe patent pending and you could be infringing. |
