Do other people get excessive accumulations of saliva around their lips and the pipe bit when smoking a tobacco pipe, or am I a member of a piggish minority?*

*I am a member of several piggish minorities. I refer specifically to the pipe-drool type.

You're probably putting too much lip on it.  Try niggard lipping it.

I get moisture in the base of the stem, but that's what pipe cleaners are for.  Try not holding it in your mouth, but hold it in your hand and only put in in your mouth when you take a puff.

Sometimes.  Usually a sudden thing, like when suddenly confronted with delicious food and you have rapid salivation.  Sometimes it happens when the puff, pause, swallow routine gets jumbled.  Like stumbling up stairs you have gone up for years.

Right now, in fact, I have some Dan Milonga in a Sasieni 4-dot ruff root.

Dear Lord, am I going to pick up yet another "hobby" from arfcom??
Just like shaving with a double edge safety razor.

The highlighted text above sounds interesting...and expensive.

It depends.  The pipe I got from Ebay (along with about half of them)..  You can find decent used ones at antique malls, yards sales, etc. I actually scored 3 pipes at the nearby antique mall for about 50 bucks and they are worth a few hundred.  One is a Savinelli giubileo d'oro, in great shape.

The tobacco is like ammo, pricey in small quantities and better in bulk.  And it lasts if you store it properly. The tin of Milonga I have is actually about 10 years old and I had opened it back then, and kind of forgot it in the back of the collection.  Opened up and it is excellent.

But yes.  It can get expensive.  Use corn cobs for basic taste testing and meerschaum pipes are great because you can do back to back smokes more than briar wood, which needs a drying time.

Between those and the pics of the guns you lost in the boating accident, your son-in-law will think you are a god!

Those and the tobak collection (more than I could probably burn in a lifetime, so I may start offloading some in the future)....

And the Kamados and cooking gear.... and the tools in the basement......etc...  I have been working towards deity status for a while....
