[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Male Birth Control Is Coming (Page 1 of 2)

Looks painful
Novel treatment may be submitted for Indian approval this year Guha’s technique for impairing male fertility relies on a polymer gel that’s injected into the sperm-carrying tubes in the scrotum. The gel, which has the consistency of melted chocolate, carries a positive charge that acts as a buffer on negatively charged sperm, damaging their heads and tails, and rendering them infertile. The treatment, known as reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance, or RISUG, is reversed with a second shot that breaks down the gel, allowing sperm to reach the penis normally. The procedure is 98 percent effective at preventing pregnancy—about the same as condoms if they are used every time—and has no major side effects, according to R. S. Sharma, head of reproductive biology and maternal health at the Indian Council of Medical Research. About 540 men have received it in India, where it continues to prevent pregnancies in their partners 13 years after treatment, he said.

Male birth control has been researched for decades now. The problem is stopping 100 million sperm, vs 1 egg.
It will eventually come around, but my bet is it'll be expensive, unreliably, and intrusive. But someone will still make it because they're the 'first'. |

Vas defrens. They're just tubes. Treat them like plumbing, and install little valves.
Ready to have a kid? Reach down, fiddle around with the boys, and good to go. You'd just need to have a positive positioning by feel so you know when they're turned off. They're ya go. Someone's going to make millions off of my idea, and when you do, a little financial gratitude would be appreciated. |

People view sex as an optional thing. Sex is basically a result of your body making you drunk and high at the same time, and dumping whatever it can in your mind, to force you to set aside reason, to have sex. Individuals can overcome that (particularly between 8-5 while on the computer in the office) - societies however cannot (short of an oppressive society like Islam). Any public policy about sex and related topics that's based on the premise that sex is a cold-logical rational decided choice, is always doomed to failure. Always.
This is men's liberation - and the faster it gets her, the safer American men will be. This should be a requirement for high school admission and for public assistance; the very people who by definition are not going to be the wiser hihg-self-control individuals of society. |

Male reproductive rights ala "my body my choice" are long overdue. This has been 5 years away for a decade, but that's better than the forever 30 years away of fixing the legal system. |

Someone was researching a setup like this. My fear would be the woman arming the system and you not know. Needs an audible alarm to warn you that they system is hot. Also would have to clear out the system like after a vasectomy Quoted:

So what, lithium batteries and wireless charger? Sounds great until your scrotum explodes and bursts into flames. |

FPNI once again. By the way, no man is going to get a shot in his balls. Hell look how many guys here have gotten snipped instead of telling the wife to get her tubes tied. |

When their wife says you are getting fixed you can bet the beta men are getting a shot to the nuts. Hell look how many guys here have gotten snipped instead of telling the wife to get her tubes tied. |

Far more benefits(for both parties) for women to take BC than for a man to get snipped.
Less moodiness, less/no breakouts, few/no periods, and the #1 benefit, no children. Also, women lose the ability to create children naturally. No reason for men to get snipped. |

Somewhere around 1-in-8 women have exceptionally negative reactions from hormonal birth control, including more moodiness, depression, weight gain, painful menstruation, etc. Back when I was on it I joked that it worked because no one could stand to be in the same room with me - I became an evil bitch. |
