One versus one, which one of these European battle rifles is better?
|
|
I like the sights better on the G3, but the location of the charging handle kills it. Between the two I would go FAL, but really I'd go M14.

As a battle rifle, the FAL is a beautiful thing. It'll run forever, it's minute-of-man, and a decent upper torso hit equals "one and done".
It sucks for everything else, but as a battle rifle... hell yeah. "The Right Arm of the Free World". |
|
G3 destroys brass and has weird Teutonic ergonomics. FAL was at one point, the most issued arm that the free world issued to their armies.
I'd go with the FAL. |
|
I'm about 49-51 ... but that slap
Really love slapping a G3 also- I owned a PTR |
|
I'll take the G3 because I know the system better. Not that I can't learn about the FAL, but I can pick up a G-3 right now and strip it completely down to the individual parts (OK, bbl & trunnion doesn't come out).

I like the AR10 best View Quote I wasn't alone in that, either. (Really, the AR10 was just late to the party. It'd be interesting to see what would have happened if development was more contemporaneous to the FAL.) |

One versus one, which one of these European battle rifles is better? View Quote I have both an HK91 and a Belgian 50.00. Accuracy goes to my particular FAL. Robustness goes to the HK. Aesthetics goes to the FAL, IMO. Spare parts, factory parts and aftermarket parts, perhaps the HK. Cool factor goes to the HK, when it's all decked out. Field stripping ease goes to the FAL, although both have quirks. Fun/pain in shooting goes to the FAL. Portability goes to the HK, although it seems to weigh a ton. Chris |

I have a DSA FAL, it shoots well. I've never had the pleasure/non pleasure of firing a G3.

G3/Cetme is the more reliable, simple system. I'd take one over the FAL any day.

FAL is lighter and more ergonomic, easier to clean, solid folding stock, easier to scope. However the adjustable gas system can be annoying... It isn't very reliable with a suppressor. Even with a modified gas plug, still way too much gas for the gun suppressed. Very heavy trigger.
HK-91 is bigger and heavier, very reliable however, eats everything I feed it. It's a good suppressor host. Scoping it is kind of a pain though. Good full-auto host if you have a registered sear. Cheap mags. No last round hold open though. Very harsh recoil unless you get a heavy buffer, and then it's about the same as the FAL. Fixed stock with heavy buffer is the way to go with this rifle. Trigger is a little better. They are both good rifles, but I still want a FN SCAR 17... |

Of those two, my vote is the FAL.
Regardless, those two are two of the four rifles everyone should know how to use, along with the AK type and the AR type. Knowing those four pretty much covers the entire planet. |

I've owned 4 HKs and 2 FALs
FAL is best battle rifle of those two. I'd rather have an AR in .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. |
