I need to replace my workboots, so I put a pair of Danner Quarry's in my Amazon cart.  I saw Danner Boot Dressing in the "other stuff BuckShot might buy from us" window and I grabbed a tub of that since I was about out.

That got me wondering if GD had any boot care products that they like better?  My normal couple-of-times-a-year routine is to remove boot laces, clean the leather with soapy water and a rag, let dry, polish in Danner Boot Dressing, let sit for a few hours, wipe off any excess dressing that is just gunked up on the leather and reassemble.

I saw several other products and kits for cleaning up work boots in the "other stuff BuckShot might buy from us" window and was wondering if I'm missing out on something better?

I wear Redback steel toe slip on boots. I wear them for 5-8 years and once a year or so I replace the insole. I do nothing else to them and wear them 5-6 days a week.

I've worn out many pairs of Danners, and they make my feet happy.
I do basically what you describe except I use a stiff brush (to remove any dried mud), slop on the Danner Boot Dressing and let them sit in the sun.
I do it at least 4 times/year. If the leather is looking dry I hit them again.
They serve me well with that regime.
I also replace the laces with leather ones.
USA made Quarries are great boots, for my feet. All other Danners I've had have worked well for me.
The Danner Boot Dressing lasts forever and works. I used to use sno-seal but the Danners remain water proof thru the life of the boots.

I always used obenaufs on my wildland boots.

Any Danner boot that uses the stitchdown construction (like the Quarry) will last an extraordinary amount of time with basic care.  The care you describe should be sufficient, the only exception being that I preferred to use saddle soap  for the cleanings rather than just ordinary soap and water, I think it does a better job of removing salts from the leather and doesn't strip any oils like a detergent based soap might.  Other than that, a good leather dressing followed by a good polish and you'll get you money's worth out of those boots.  They're also easy to resole.

I just use cheap olive oil.

You're doing good the Quarry's are a great fitting and wearing boot, I've tried others such as the Rainforest and came back to the Quarry. Their boot dressing seems to work well, I've tried the Obenauf's and found it leaves the leather sticky and dust and dirt cling to it. Keep it simple.

Whatever you use, I'd try to research it to make sure it won't rot the stitching. Lots of 'boot/leather dressings' will.

Personally, I only use obenaufs.

like any tool, take care of them
leather will dry out and crack no matter what, its simple to prevent though
saddle soap and neatsfoot oil,  a old cowboy recommended those to me

I use some Bickmore/Bick4 boot conditioner
it was recommended to me by a cowboy boot seller here in town, so I bought some
I cant comment that it works but the boots on my feet right now are 5 or 6 years old and still look good

Danner's boot dressing is barely mediocre.  Protect your expensive boots with Sno-Seal.

Neatsfoot oil every so often. New insoles. Dry them well when possible.

Different materials, including different kinds of leather, require different types of care.  I would follow the manufacturer's instructions for caring for your particular pair of boots.  EXAMPLE.

Piss on the suckers  tell all the leather is soaked threw.......let dry  and coat with your favorite CLP gun oil...

If you want them to shine to impress a boss or supervisor  .......blow a load of baby bladder blaster  and working it onto the leather......

Kiwi   also works in a pinch  .

eta- Buy a Peet boot/shoe dryer and use it every day.  Summer or winter, hot or cold, wet or dry, use it every day.

Good silicone spray that is meant for shoes, all you need IMHO

The best I found was to take plain old beeswax, melt it and paint it all over the leather, then hit it lightly with a heat gun. It sucks it right up.

This year I tried something new on a fresh pair of boots, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I took clear silicone and put a bunch in a mixing cup, then added odorless mineral spirits and mixed with a drill until it was just runny enough to paint on, and covered the entire boot with it, then let it dry a few days in the barn.

I haven't had a chance to test them yet, but water beads right off when I dump it on there.

I was just hoping the silicon route wouldn't stiffen up the leather as much.

This is true ....the secret is at least two pairs of shoes or boots ...make sure you use some sort of method to dry thoroughly in between use . I use cedar inserts and have enough shoes I can rotate wear. Keep them clean and conditioned and you will notice dfference
