School me up.
How does FL compare to GA with gun laws, carry, NFA, etc.?

Hate Colorado and mom n dad are trying to convince me to come down there and open residential contract company.

I know it's gotta be better than Colorado but GA is home so that's the measuring stick.

FL is shaped like a gun, what more do you need to know. GA allows open carry. FL is working on it otherwise, MG's switchblades, DD's all GTG.

Our laws could be better; for example we don't have general open carry, only open carry under certain circumstances, nor do we have constitutional carry, but they're pretty good for example "NO FIREARMS" signs can be ignored and our self defense laws and castle laws are strong.

Florida's Full....Sorry. Only reason this state went red was because we've been working our asses off fixing all the Libertardism around here.

I'm sure that Georgia though could certainly use your help there...

Yeah, grew up in South Alabama so I'm intimately familiar with the panhandle.
Looking more toward Brevard county area although fbi crime stats say stay out of JAX.

Additionally, parents are not far from that age where they're going to need my help so there's that.

Somewhere eastern seaboard area, northern/north-central area.

I grew up in central Florida during the '70s and '80s. My misspent Florida youth was spent fishing, canoeing (I was even a professional guide for a Summer), boating, exploring the backwaters, surfing and Diving. While kids up North were shoveling driveways, I was skimming pools for spending money. In 7th Grade, I got first place in a science fair for reconstructing an alligator skeleton we found (the "extra" bones turned out to be from a raccoon). I worked at a fish camp and every morning part of my duties were to take a paddle and a single-shot .410 and "beat" the water, docks, picnic tables, dumpsters, etc. to drive off anything that had crawled, slithered or otherwise made itself at home during the night. The .410 was for anything that didn't want to vacate but was rarely used (I actually never had to use it myself).I had my first drink, my first woman and my first car in Florida.

Honestly, I never should have left

However, I will be coming home within the next few years. We have our property all picked out and I just need to get my kids out of college and get my 30 year pin. Then, color me gone!

ETA- Sorry to wax nostalgic

Not sure on the intricacies of FL gun laws but GA is pretty awesome.  There are very, very few places you can't carry.

We're also actively working to restore even more gun rights.  Looks like campus carry just made it out of committee along with 2 other pro-gun bills that addressed some technicalities regarding reciprocity and permit turnaround times.

Florida has some good gun laws but there a few states with better ones.  There are also states with much worse.

The state has primacy on gun regulations so we don't have to worry about some city or county being oppressive.

The carry permit is "shall issue" and fairly easy to get.

The state protect gun ranges pretty good.

We don't have open carry but there are a boatload of exemptions that covers most of the places you would want to open carry.  The only reason we don't have open carry is that the tourist lobby owns most of the elected officials of both parties. They think if we have open carry one less tourist will come, or something.

In the many decades I have lived here I have never been hassled about firearms.

About three weeks ago I got stopped by a Sheriff's Deputy for speeding.  I was going 75 in a 55 zone.  I was coming back from the range and had several firearms with me.  The Deputy saw the guns in the truck and asked if I was off shooting.  I told him where and he said that was where he goes to qualify.  He asked what I was shooting and I told him a lightweight AR that I had recently built.  He asked (nicely) if he could see it.   He was very interested and asked me about the components because he wanted one like it.  We had a great conversation.  I got off with a warning ticket instead of a $280 fine.

I call BS. I've been in Jax for 27 years and the crime isn't any worse here than it is in any big city. I feel a lot safer here than I do in Miami. And Jax is in Duval Co., not Brevard.
You just need to know which side of town to stay away from (*cough* Northwest quadrant *cough*).

But one cool thing about Brevard County is, you get to see all the rocket launches close up.

Florida is good, but beware. 10/20/Life. And that law does not necessarily apply to criminals.

Pull your pistol? 10 years.

Discharge your pistol? 20 years.

Injure or kill someone equals LIFE!

Those are mandatory sentences .

There are documented cases of folks doing lot's of time for pulling a gun. It depends on witness statements (usually liars), law enforcement, State Attorneys, judges, juries, etc.

57 years in Florida so far, aint leaving anytime soon.

Our gun laws are pretty good, with room for improvement.

Truthfully, I never feel oppressed, although it is a PITA to remove your carry gun when running errands at school or picking folks up at the airport. And open carry would be nice, although I can't recall ever wishing I could instead of concealed.

But all else is pretty good, laws are vehemently pro-gun, and controlled by the State, so no Namby-Pamby city laws can be enacted to counter State law. Any Local Official attempting to enforce a local ordinance regarding firearms can be removed from office and fined $5000.

The State made it  Felony for employers to even inquire if you have a gun in your vehicle.

Pretty strong, not perfect.'

Come on in and join the fight!
