Well?
Owners manual says 97500 Miles on a 14 GM Truck with 6L80. Have seen stories of people with newer trucks than mine struggling mightily in their garages pumping out liters at half this or less. |

Change, don't flush. Flushing will break crap loose and clog valve body. I would drop the pan and change filter and replace the amount in pan. Watch out when you fill it might need to be in neuteral instead of park. Read the info on the dip stick. The likelihood of me doing it myself is zero, but I appreciate your efforts. I have heard never to flush and just to change. From 98-14 all I drove was manuals. |

Normally I would change the fluid when the manual says to but for both my 4Runner and FJ Cruiser it does not say to ever change it as the transmissions are sealed. I had the 4Runner's ATF changed at 100k and will be changing the FJC's at 90k now that I see how it's done (transmission has to be at a certain temp range to check the level). I don't trust it being a lifetime fluid.
ETA: I wish I had done both vehicles at 60k miles but oh well. |

You have to take different variables into account
Newer or older vehicle Hard use- towing etc. Contamination- off roading etc. I used to run Astro vans as work vans and we routinely got over 250,000 miles out of them before they started to go downhill. Tranny fluid was changed at 100,000 miles to who knows. If I got a van that had low enough mileage I would do changes at the recommended intervals. If I got one with well over 100,000 miles I just left it alone. When i did do fluid changed I would pull the line from the tranny cooler and let it pump out before I pulled the pan Rarely does anything good come from messing with automatic trannies that haven't had proper fluid changes. I've also never seen a vehicle with a slipping transmission fixed by just changing the fluid. Eta: tranny thread |

It's a bit funny seeing some manufacturers promoting "lifetime" fills. As in, the fluid is good for the lifetime of the transmission. As if they give a shit what that "lifetime" is once the warranty expires.
I generally have it changed/serviced at 25k miles and every 50k thereafter, unless towing or some other severe duty. |

How did this "flush is bad for the tranny" myth get started? Â Anyone actually know how they do it? Probably started by shops that don't have a flush machine. The theory is it will dislodge sludge and cause slipping (same logic from people who say never touch it). If your trans. is that full of sludge that it's a functional part, WTF? Unless there's some new power flush, the machine just taps into the cooler lines, and you run the engine. The trans. pump just circulates out the old fluid for new. |

Do they service the transmission on those when they take it out to replace the frame? Quoted:

Should've bought a tundra. Do they service the transmission on those when they take it out to replace the frame? Depends, probably just a fluid level check if they bother at all. I have an 08 Tundra and did a flush at 90K and just did another at 120K and every 30K after that. M.O.C. recommends a flush every 30K and if the tyranny fails and you've done the flush every 30K they'll replace your tyranny or give you a certain amount IIRC. |
