To my great surprise, Moonlight turns out to be Brokeback Mountain in the ghetto. It was pretty shitty before the 2 dudes started making out and tugging each other off. Doubt its going to get much better.

I may be biased (to say the least), but the trailer looks good. Anything that can give one a glimpse into another life is interesting to me. Sound and visual atmosphere also seems good.

Although many GDers weren't aware of it, this film was one of the highest rated/reviewed films of the year. People in the industry were buzzing about it for a solid six-eight months. The big Hollywood pander was the Iranian film. Granted, there are some good Iranian films being produced (GD brains exploding now). However, the director making a stink about Trump and not traveling to the US guaranteed an Oscar win for him. |

Well people in the industry were buzzing about "Brokeback Mountain" too and that film sucked. The same old boring shit about not following your heart and instead doing what your parents/society expects. Oh, yeah, and throw in forbidden love and cowboys since they are always popular. And cowboys made it so risky... It was a snore. If it had been about a man and a woman no one would have noticed. Just another cheating redneck movie. They recycled one of the tiredest themes in Hollywood, perhaps one of tiredest themes in storytelling; at least since people were loving someone other than they were supposed to. Which might have been around about as long as humans. Or at least as long as the time Julius Caesar fell in love with a black woman. |
