So Friday after work I stopped by our local Vitamin Shoppe to pick up a few things. On the way back to my vehicle I slipped and fell on some ice. Went down pretty hard on the right side on my back and the back of my head bounced off the concrete. As a result now, my back and neck are sore which makes sense, but the worst pain is in my abdominal muscles, mostly when sitting up...that's what has me confused. Is this normal after such an incident?

Yes, you strained your abdominals when you fell. Very common. Not a doc btw.

No Doc here, but are you over 45?

That's when I started to notice that the things that were just little bumps started hurt & hurt for a while.

Probably this.  I recall being sore for a few days after taking a spill on parking lot ice myself a few years back.

Full disclosure: not a doc.

Your abs tensed up without your conscious input as you were falling, and now they are sore because of it. I'd be more worried about bouncing your skull off the pavement.

Ok doc, thanks! Any idea how long I can expect this pain to hang around? I'm pretty sore and I got shit to do....

In that split second you had between falling and realizing you were going to hit your head, your stomach muscles tensed up to lift your head a reduce the impact.
