Looking for a new day pack/ruck for EDC.
Needs to be able to hold 2 phones, G19 and mags, contact lens accouterments, pens, flashlight and capable of carrying a long sleeve shirt / light jacket plus other daily items as needed.
Not concerned with bladder capabilities.
Not interested in a single strap sling bag, I want to be able to shoulder it like a pack if need be.
What say the hive?
Suggestions?

Well timbuk2 has some nice bags that you can customize to what you want. I have a messenger bag I bought five years ago to carry around an iPad that work said I had to have and had to keep track of. Damn thing still looks new. Even has a nice pocket on it that you can fit a handgun in and no one would know yet still easy to get to if needed.

Might be a little big for you needs, but I EDC a Camelbak Motherlode

It's goes with me everywhere.  Daily to work, whether in the truck or on the motorcycle.  It has been around the world with me.  The back pocket is big enough to carry my EDC stuff, knives, flashlights, batteries, mags, matches, etc.  I store work stuff like jump drives, cables, hard drives in the upper pocket.  Main pocket is workout clothes, lunch, IFAK, etc.

I have 3 different Camelbaks, one lightweight bladder bag, one day pack/EDC and one multiday Mystery Ranch designed backpacking pack.  All have held up extremely well throughout the years.

Are you wanting to look like Tactical Jim or are you looking for something less MultiCam/MOLLE and more professional/outdoors style?

I have a Camelbak linchpin that is amazing, but since that one is no longer made I say mystery ranch streetfighter. They both have the same adjustable suspension.

Once you use a pack that has real suspension it's hard tk go back to the limp straps that most bags have.

I have 2 I use for the most part:

1. LBT go pack with the IIIa insert (got it on one of their sales). http://lbtinc.com/8k3a It looks like a normal small pack. I usually carry it for work, as I can get sent out on last minute notice, so I keep some non-perishable food items in it for lunch just in case.

2. MSM/TT Adapt pack. Has some MOLLE, so it's not as low-key. I actually prefer this pack of the 2. http://milspecmonkey.com/store/packs-bags/341-msm-adapt-pack.html

I have one of those and it seems like overkill for what the OP needs. That 3 Day Assault pack is enormous. It's a great pack though. I love mine.

I have two of these smaller LBT Go Pack's. I got them onsale at different times last year where it was only $99 WITH the IIIa soft insert. I use one for work and the wife uses one for school. The mesh webbing I usually throw a lunch in. The smaller pouch holds my accessories like phone charger, small first aid kit, some spare diabetes supplies, etc. The main pouch holds my leather portfolio and I can put my work laptop, mouse, and charger in there. There's still room left over in both pouches. When I go on trips it's my backpack that holds my P938, G19, spare mags, ammo, and a laser/light and other gun related stuff. For me it's a perfect size for a work/day backpack or a secondary longer trip pack if you're going by car. The only negative I have is the there's no dividers or anything so if you have a lot of small odds and ends in the smaller pouch it can get all jumbled together pretty easy. I spent a lot of time trying to find something between hauling a laptopbag, satchel, or briefcase everyday or something like that 3 Day Assault pack shown above. This really hit the sweet spot for me.

Edit: You can get them in non tacitcal colors too. I have a green one, wife has grey. The blue one is nice as well.

For the people buying a ruck without a hip belt, are you carrying any serious weight for any significant distance? For serious work a hip belt is mandatory for my purposes. But I'm rucking full pack, every day for 6-8 km on average.

I have a Kelty Capture 25L that does a good job as an all purpose day pack that is non-tactical.  I don't think they make it anymore, but they do have comparable new models, like the Riot 22 or Redtail 27.

Why not a sling bag?
You wear it like a backpack and they are a lot faster to access since you just swing it around to your front.
If you are carrying a heavy load a backpack may be easier to carry but I fill my sling bag with pistol, mags, laptop, water bottle, notebooks and more and it is still comfortable.

You need a hipbelt to carry a ruck 4.9 miles a day? I've carried a 75+ lb ruck over 10 miles without strapping on the waist strap. It's not the most pleasant thing but it's sure as hell not neccesary, especially for sub 35lb light loads. It's not neccesary AT ALL for daypack type loads.

GORUCK bullet fits the description.  Though it has a loop inside to suspend a bladder it is just as useful without it. Live mine. Also have the 25L Rucker that is probably bigger than what you're looking for.

MSM Adapt Pack

Incredibly well thought out and constructed, unfortunately it was a little too small for what I wanted to do with it. Sounds perfect for your needs, though.

A Jansport backpack would be a good choice for blending in.

If you like the operator look, a SpecOps THE pack, or a LBT pack have held up well over the years.

As soon as they run another sale, I'm getting one. I got an LA Police Gear MOLLE three day pack that is cheap and pretty bomb proof. It does look tactical but in black it just looks strappy.

I used a plastic yard sign to make a sheet frame and it carries my laptop, iPad, cables and cords plus a jacket easily and comfortably.

OP, try this one . You will not be disappointed. It comes in many different colors as well and will not attract attention like the "tacticool" ones.

Maybe I'm not carrying light loads boss. Operative word is full ruck not a gay little day bag. If you want to carry 75 lbs on your shoulders good for you. I'd rather carry it on my hips.

Just switched to this from my maxpedition.

Great bag with deceptive volume. Laptop, cables, hard case notebook carrier, all the little shit that goes with it plus a holstered g19. Can be had on the EE real cheap if you're patient.

Next LBT sale I'm going to grab one of theirs.

I think the Goruck bullet fits the bill.  Mine has gone everywhere with me.  I don't need or want a full sized pack all the time.  Now if they would make the 15l Bullet ruck again it would buy it immediately.

I have several acu molle II ap's. Also have two filbe ap's. One ilbe ap. Love them all. For a bob or anything of the nature I have two acu ap's in the basement. Love them. If its gone to hell who cares about camo? Modular, easily carries a couple days of food and ammo, few socks, and can verious extra pouches attached.

I do trust military stuff. Love alices too, but can afford and now prefer the extras that come with molle.

Kind of liking the looks of this:

Anybody have any input on Voodoo Tactical?
Pricing is in the range I would like to be, would likely to stay under $125.00.

Thanks to all for the input, much appreciated.

For slightly more than your budget you can get something from Grey Ghost Gear/Tactical Tailor/Milspec Monkey (all of these are made by Tactical Tailor) or get the Mystery Ranch I suggested. Any of these will be much higher quality than Voodoo.

I like the tactical tailor urban operator pack, tacticool without screaming tacticool.

However I use a goruck gr1 for my edc purposes for school -- the laptop compartment and frame sheet are godsend

These right here. I picked up a couple from the last big sale they had. Get the ATS framesheets from SKD Tac to help carry weight if you load it up.
