What I have: Vizio e65ud2 tv connected to Onkyo TX-NR646 receiver connected to a Blu Ray player.

Vizio will not display DVDs but will display Blu Rays. I just bought the Vizio, the old tv displayed both fine.

Google lead me to believe my DVR laser went out on my Blu Ray player, so I bought a new one. The new one's menu screen is displayed, but it won't show DVDs or Blu Rays.

I assume the Vizio has a setting whereby it sets the resolution and there's a cross up, but I can't find it.

All connections are HDMI. I tried plugging the Blu Ray into the receiver's game slot with no success. I tried a different HDMI port on the TV with no success.

Thoughts?

Did you try the blue ray directly to the TV, bypassing the receiver?

Have you tried a new HDMI cable? The TV should auto-sense resolution. Are you getting any sort of message on the screen such as "resolution not supported"?

Edit: Yes, that fixed it. Now to find out how to adjust the receiver.

Yes, tried another cable. "No signal" except when the Blu Ray's main menu is displayed.

update all firmare

make sure you are using the same hdcp type (only port 1 on the vizio is 2.2 iirc)
and the 2.2 on the 646 should be marked

other than that, call vizio tech support?

Bypassing the receiver fixed my display issue. Now how do I fix my receiver?

There's probably a setting in your receiver somewhere. Checkout AVS forums. They'll be able to help you guaranteed.

Go into the Onkyo and check the HDMI settings.  Set it to pass through if possible.  Strip all conversion from it.

Make sure all firmware updates are done to the BD player and Onkyo.

Worst case scenario, run the BD player directly to the TV via HDMI and then use optical out from BD player to Oknyo.  (Make sure you change the setting in the BD player if you have to resort to this method.)

Apparently HDMI Deep Color was activated on both the receiver and the Blu Ray player. Turning it off on the receiver fixed the problem.

Thanks!
