I'm looking at a couple of 2003 4runners. One has 100k miles (listed at $12k), the other has 160k (listed at $8500). Both are SR5 Sport models, and seem to be in fairly similar condition for the most part. The cheaper one has a few more scuffs & scrapes, but nothing I really care about, as this is going to be a second vehicle.
Which of these would you consider to be the better value? What sort of things should I watch out for in terms of potential problems? I'd add a poll, but I can't figure out how to do that anymore.

If they run similar, rust would be something I'd look at. I have 2 2006s, one is rusty as shit underneath, one isn't. I wouldn't worry about the mileage difference, both of mine are about 140-150k, not worried about their longevity as long as I treat em right. Thank you. |

1985 with the 22 RE and 5 speed ![]() Funny you say that - I have an 85 with 5 speed, and I'm thinking about selling it and either using my UZJ100 as my primary off road vehicle, or getting a 4th Gen 4Runner and building it. The 85 is cool for rock crawling, but for everything else, a more modern vehicle is a plus. Regarding the original question, if condition is similar, I'd buy the higher mileage one and save some $$. Mileage is not a big factor on Toyota trucks - my 2001 LC has 200K on it and looks and drives like it has 50K. Assuming both are in similar condition, you can't really make a bad choice between the two you asked about. |
