I have a BCM upper and a LaRue barrel. BCMs website says to heat the upper with a gun to get the barrel on. I don't have one.  I was thinking of putting the upper in the over at about 150 deg.

Will that damage the upper?

Microwave it

Have you test fit the barrel to the upper at ambient temps? I've never had a barrel not fit using quality parts.

Put it in a saucepan on your stove top.  Medium heat 5 minutes.

150?

I've worked in kitchens with much higher ambient temperatures.

Add more heat!

Would 150 even do anything? That's not very hot as far as metals go.

Honestly I don't think it would hurt it. But heat guns aren't that expensive either...unless you need it right friggin now?

I just installed one and a hairdryer worked fine, I doubted that it would heat enough to make a difference but after heating for maybe 60 seconds it went on very easily. Don't forget to use a little lubricant, I used a little remoil.

Maybe you could boil it?

150 won't affect the aluminum. You likely won't get much expansion either though.

150 is fine.  But you are missing out on a perfect excuse to buy a heat gun.

Thanks for the help

I put the upper on the stove for a few minutes and the barrel slipped right on.

Yeah it won't be a problem. I've done it on gun parts and motor parts. Works like a charm.

When I install AKM barrels, I stick barrels in the freezer and heat to trunnion with MAPP for 15-20 sec.

I've never installed an AR barrel that required any of that.
