To celebrate MAGA im thinking an Omega Speedmaster professional or maybe a Jumbo Marathon GSAR at half the cost. Im a watch collector and have a bunch but nothing more that 1200 bucks so far. I love the Omega and Marathon. I have a quartz Marathon TSAR already and love it. I need at least a 42mm watch, wrists are a tad over 7 3/4 inches
I know there are many watch threads here and a separate forum, but this is more specific. So, WWYD? Also thinking maybe a WP PVS14 to get into night vision. Used to fly with AN/pvs-6 goggles and miss that, but not really a night hunter here in tx. But a PVS14 or a set of Sentinel binocs would be a cool toy, and maybe get me out to night hunt some pigs here in Tx. I do have a nice 26acre private range where i could go out and do some night shooting..... Jumbo GSAR Omega Moon Watch UPDATE: Just got a nice delivery from my best friend, the ups driver. Came 3 days early, took off on monday to meet the driver, sig required. Checked today and it was on vehicle for delivery. Woo Hoo! Turns out i did not remove any links from the watch. Took a more accurate reading and im at 7 7/8" and the band fits nice and comfy. The size is pretty much what i like. Shitty Samsung S5 pics, never had the gay gene for great photos. Not that there's anything wrong with that... MIlo and Big Pony rock!!!!!!!!!!! Just not my thing. Thanks guys for the help. Lovin this thing so far. Now to go to the fuckin moon! Although i got the sapphire sammich vs the classic plastic hesalite crystal. Im pretty tough on watches and dont care for the queep. I am just getting into watches. I find the fact that there are watches out there that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars that have quartz movements and need a battery to be ridiculous. Aren't the movements made in Japan by miyota or something? Even the Vostoks?
Then I read somewhere (and please correct me) that Rolex movements are not made in house either and that they actuallt cost only about 80-90 dollars to produce. The other parts are made by Rolex, just not the movement. Supposedly the movement is very, very high quality and Swiss made but costs them very little. |

I have a box of nice Seikos. They are all nice automatics ranging from the monster line to Seiko premier.
My goal was to get a black 42mm Omega Planet Ocean but have since got into smart watches for some reason And I just got the Garmin Fenix 3. For some reason, I really like having the watch notify me of text and phone calls so I don't hear my phone all day. Plus the fact I use it to track all my workouts. |

Fug it, just placed the amazon order and 5% cash back so about 200 bucks. will pay it off in 2 months. Now off to look at the Vostocks. I have a handful of Lum-Tecs and other medium range time pieces but am looking forward to a nice watch. MAGA, |

I agree with your assessment of high dollar quartz watches. I've never understood it either. The japanese miyota movement is an automatic. It's used in some seikos and citizens as well as other low/mid tier watches. Rolex makes all movements in house. I believe the only thing they outsource is the raw material to make it. I don't know what their movement costs to make...I'm gonna guess considerably more than the $80-$90 you were told. That's a lot of hand fitting and labor. And OP, I hope you got the Omega. I'll never part with my seamaster |

Damn, these companies are getting good at catching these fucktards. |

I have a TSAR, GSAR (regular size) and JSAR and love them all. Because Marathon is already so well represented in my collection, I would go with the Speedmaster. |
| Even though I'm not a fan of chronographs I do love the Omega. I have the Marathon. I bought it from a member here but, it's sitting in the safe broken. I've tried to contact Marathon twice to get it repaired with no reply. I'll try again when I have time but, this has certainly has turned me off of the brand. |

ok, Dug out an old pic from some clocks. Omega will be a great addition. so will a Vostock.Attached File |

Of the two you mentioned the speedy. I wear a gsar on nato daily.
Wouldn't have a jumbo... The csar maybe though... https://www.marathonwatch.com/product/search-rescue-pilots-automatic-chronograph-csar/

I have a Speedmaster Pro "moon watch" with the display back my wife got me as a wedding present.
I love the watch and the history of it and will never part with it until one of my boys ends up with it one day. I really like the new "dark side of the moon" version they came out with and want an X-33 for some reason as well. The speedmaster is great though in that it's both dressy and casual depending on what else you're wearing and subtle enough that only other watch people really notice it or know what it is. |

If you can find one, the Buran is nice (an upgraded Strela - Soviet space watch): http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h86/Arkoutha/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170201_203707_zpsrikswfx0.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h86/Arkoutha/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170201_203825_zpstxjeddzs.jpg Holy crap the Buran model you have is amazing looking! I will never find one of those. |
|
Speedmaster for sure, sapphire sandwich FTW!
The marathon is much less of a practical watch (IMO), much more casual. The top 3 watches I've ever owned in terms of versatility are Rolex 114060 (by far my favorite) Omega Speedmaster sapphire sandwich Omega Seamaster 2254.50 (probably the best value of the trio, much better bracelet than the Bond seamasters) |
|
Marathon and Omega are not in the same quality category. Omega is a luxury brand. You already know the Speedmaster, in its many iterations, is Omega's most popular model. That speaks volumes. The Speedmaster Pro is a true purists/collectors' piece.
I have worn this Speedmaster MKII for the past forty-five years. You needn't be concerned about its build quality. Attached File Pro-tip.....Buy Pre-owned. |

I will own a Speedmaster moon watch some time. Maybe next year. What's the deal with the display back? Is it one particular model or just an option on any of the models? It depends on the model whether or not it has one. But I wouldn't let that weigh heavily on your decision. The top of the watch is what you see 99% of the time. |

We should have an ARF watch thread bingo card.
You get some actual good, productive answers. Then some dude recommends a $75,000 watch for someone with a $200 budget. Then some chump claims his cell phone and car radio tell him the time and that's all he needs. Guy bounces in causing pause as to his sexuality with pics of his Apple watch. Then a couple dudes chime in and call a >$50 watch "men's jewelry". Casio FTMFW. Then the guys with nice watches call the cheapo watch dudes Bernie-bots. Insult trading goes on for three pages until the thread gets somewhat back on track. By then it's everybody's bed time. |

For sure, just sort of neat and if all other things are equal, I'd get the display back...not going to spend a bunch extra for it either. I just can't quite figure out what models have them and what ones don't. |

I wish it was a automatic...oh well. |

The Omega Speedmaster "Moon Watch" is the 3570.50 with a solid back. Other models with a sapphire back are not Moon Watches. |
