I have a Thompson Center Encore that has some rust. I will try to post a picture but I have never done that before. My lgs sold me a Perma Blue kit but I am nervous about screwing it up. My biggest question is do I need to totally disassemble the pistol to keep the chemicals from getting in holes around pins and whatnot? How hard is this to fuck up? I was thinking about media blasting it but LGS guy says not to.

I thought we didn't have to upload to photobucket any more. I click on the photo icon and it asks for a URL.. WTF?

If this isn't the right forum for this please direct me to the right one.

I'd sent it out. Let the experts dissemble/reassemble besides refinishing. My first CZ went to Robar. First rate job!

No it was many years ago. All I can remember was I was very impressed with the job. They even repainted the red/white dots on my safety & sights. No damages on my roll pins. Dont know if they changed them.

How bad is the rust?  I recently cleaned up a German K43 I have had for a couple years that had rust on the front end from years of poor storage by a previous owner.  I did some research, and did the ""copper penny" trick.  You need a copper penny (made before 1982) and some gun oil.  I spent two hours, a few squirts of Rem Oil and one penny and cleaned up the rifle and did not remove any bluing.  The idea is that copper is harder than rust but softer than blued steel.  I would try it first before I took dramatic measures that involve finish removal.  If there is pitting, it will never look right.  Cold blue has a distinct smell and fades over time.  Professional rebluing is only as good as the person prepping the metal and what they can do with damage to the metal itself.

It looks like there is a little bit of pitting. Most of it is in an area that is covered by the grip. I might try the penny trick.
Still can't figure out how to post pics, or even search for how to post pics. Apparently you can only search for one keyword
and not a phrase???
