So the tickets are bought for Vancouvers ski trip to whistler .
Have already read up about Canadian knife laws and tightened up my pivot screw. What else to take? I figured I'd also pack some 550 cord and a flashlight too. I was wondering about my carry on though. No, not packing that stuff In there, but was thinking of using my everyday backpack for my carry on. My backpack has had ammo and guns in it in the past and was wondering if that would cause a problem with residue being detected during security. Also it says my flight a 787 dreamliner has wifi. Not sure if it's free or what. And will THEY block ar15.com? As you can tell, I don't travel much. It's probably been 6 or 8 years since getting g on a plane. |

I figured if they blocked it I could backdoor their ass. I'll pony up a membership if need be. |

No idea about your bag but I have a similarly used bag and never had a problem. Flew American from Charlotte to Seattle last summer and bought the wifi package. They did not block any websites that encountered including arfcom. Have fun. Whistler is incredible. As far as ammo and firearms being in the bag in the past is minimal. I'll make sure and clean out every nook and cranny though . Don't want to find a loose round in there, as we all know Kahr mags are known for dropping a round or two. POS . |

If you get the United app you can use it to stream the inflight entertainment to your personal device (free). If you want internet access you'll have to pay. Wtf. Isn't the inflight entertainment already on the seat back in front of my face? Sounds like a scam. |
|
Download the united app for phones and tablets before you get on board. Also have a shortcut to United Wi-fi on your laptop if you're planning on using it. Signup is slow and you may think that it's stalled or failed. It's not, but a good idea to have the shortcut on your desktop for times the signal drops. I haven't had this website dropped by United but I only do 30-40k a year. You can't stream movies so if you want to watch one, download it from your service. Some don't allow replay unless you're connected to the internet. I download itunes movies and start playing for a few minutes while at home. That way it's initialized and you can now watch without a connection.
Since it's been a few years, you may not know that they don't take cash for drinks or snacks anymore. Need a credit card. For the short flight from SEATAC to YVR, probably no internet but it's a quick up and down anyway. If you're not checking bags, might want to get your boarding passes from the United App on your phone. Also sign up for the alerts so you'll be notified of any delays. You can still get a paper boarding pass if you like. |

Not unusual for the headphone jack at your seat to be fubar. 787 is a new aircraft so things should be working, but shit happens. |

I'll try and decipher that info and dl some apps. I think. Hmm. No cash for drinks. I'm good with that. They can use the same card the rest of the 12k is on. Better check the limit on the card I guess , so I'm not declined , .87 cents or some bullshit. But hey, maybe it's Canadian .87 cents and it's really only .53 cents or ......... Yeah, I better have a spare card , cause I'm going to be needing some alcohol meds. |

Yes it's already free. Lots of people use macbooks on planes, a macbook has a nicer screen than what's in the seatback. Not unusual for the headphone jack at your seat to be fubar. 787 is a new aircraft so things should be working, but shit happens. I have a phone but no MacBook or tablet. I could really careless about a movie, although my family may want to watch one. I just want to post to arfcom "up here at 35000 ft and it's 40 below zero ask me anything " kind of thread. |

| I carry the same backpack on flights that I use to carry handguns and ammo sometimes. Last trip I got selected to have myself and my bag swabbed. The week before I had a glock, loaded glock mags and pmags in it. I got swabbed after I was in Europe though so YMMV. |
| Don't try to get to the airport "on time." Get there as early as you can stand. It is way better to be through all the security and check-in bullshit and have time to relax in the terminal than to try to time it down to the last minute. The plane won't wait for you. |
| I can not really say much but private is the only way to fly. I have been on two planes a Boeing 777 when it was not in flight and was still under test trials and a King Air that my former employers had. The only time I flew was from Port Aransas, Texas to Freer, Texas. A twenty minute flight turned into 45 minutes because we were dodging thunderstorms the whole way back to the ranch. I didn't have to worry about the 1911 I was carrying cocked and locked or the Winchester 30-30 that I had with me. I pulled up next to the plane in my bosses Suburban got out talked a few minutes with him then we took off and buzzed the Port A beach before heading home. It was a cool experience but I will not fly again, I will keep myself on the ground. |

Yea I read thru some of the email thing they sent , but holy wall of text. Ain't nobody gots time for that... |

Only issue you may have with your bag is if it gets pulled out for a random check and they swab it down. They may pick up some explosive residue when they swab it.
I've had it happen to me and got a full pat down and a much more extensive bag check. It's one time I was really glad I had TSA precheck. I told them I had been to a gun store about 20 minutes before coming to the airport and had been in the reloading section. So, I'm guessing the explosive residue may have been transferred to my bag then. |

"Bleep...bleep...bleep...bleep...I don't know why it's not working..." And then when they don't have a paper back up, guess where they're headed. |

And then when they don't have a paper back up, guess where they're headed. Because technology is so hard? Takes them all of 10 seconds to enter your name and check you in. And you're going to stand on the jetway waiting to board anyway. Anyway, the point is that you have options.
And if you're in the last boarding group, please listen to the ground crew and gate check your carry on when they tell you that the bins will most likely be full. In fact, count on it and have your things separated beforehand. |

Just be very careful of any bag you take for carry on. I have separate range bags and don't take them on the plane for the fear of a round being lost somewhere in there. As for AR15 in flight, I fly AA and they use gogo inflight for internet and I surf hear a lot in flight. You can look up what you can legally take into Canada without paying duty. Here is web site http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/bgb-rmf-eng.html
Unstamped Tobacco Products – Import limits In addition to your personal exemption amounts, there are limits on the quantity of tobacco products that may be imported if it is not packaged and not stamped "duty paid Canada droit acquitté". The limit is currently five units of tobacco products. One unit of tobacco products consists of one of the following: Product Amount Cigarettes 200 cigarettes Cigars 50 cigars Tobacco 200 grams (7 ounces) of manufactured tobacco Tobacco sticks 200 tobacco sticks |

I guess I'll be safe taking 6 cans then. Maybe they'll let the .2 oz slide or I can just put that .2 in my mouth . |

I fly a decent amount.
I've never encountered any website being blocked that I would browse in public, (read: not porn). I've specifically been on ARFCOM on United Flights before. I've flown on most of the major airlines in the last 6 months. Most have some sort of WiFi entertainment option that doesn't cost anything and let's you use your own device (though some movies may cost a couple bucks). Bigger planes also usually have the seatback option as well. WiFi is not free. Although if you buy a Chromebook (or have one) they come with a certain number of free passes for GoGoWireless (I know that Delta and American use GoGo for their inflight wifi, not sure on United, but I seem to remember they do). If you're buying WiFi access - make sure you buy either access for the day or for the flight (different airlines have different options). If you pay by the hour or half hour it's really pricey and not really worth it, especially on long haul flights when it's usually 2 bucks more to get it for the whole trip. Good Luck - the dreamliner is the latest and greatest, my Uncle worked on the inflight entertainment system at Boeing, supposed to be pretty sweet. |

Flew UA in Nov. Read arfcom the whole way. You sure it's a 787? Unless you're doing a transcon on Air Canada, I'm guessing it will be a 737 or a bus. TC Was thinking the same thing. Would be sweet to catch a ride on a Dreamliner. Looks like they are using the 787 on some domestic legs. United IAH-SEA ETA, click on detailed view. |
