The thread about the special snow flakes in Oregon (and NJ) that can't pump their own gas got me thinking about things changing at the gas pump.

I rarely hear people rattling the shit out of the nozzle to make sure they don't drip gas on their paint.  The sound of rattles and bangs used to be just one of the sounds at the gas station.  Now?  Never.  Hell, I get funny looks.

I also never hear people clicking and popping on the handle to get every last drop of gas into the tank.  This used to be very common.

In the county I work in, they have hard rubber boots on the nozzles that I guess are supposed to seal against the fill neck.  All they do is make a huge god damn mess of gas.  They don't go into the fill neck deep enough so any splash back flies into the boot, then when you lift it off, the gas splashes out of the boot onto the paint and ground.  I'm very glad the county I live in hasn't adopted these yet.

always wondered why OR and NJ believe their citizens are too infantile and helpless to pump their own gas.  Is it a jobs program?

No idea.  I'd expect it out of California.

Thats a vapor recorvery nozzle attached to what appears to be just a normal non vapor recovery hose.

I can't stand dripping gas on my paint.

The not clicking every last drop is due to evap shit, charcoal canisters don't like being drown in gasoline.

I'd have to say it is.  No other reason for it.

And in some other states, like NY, they disable the "hold open" so that you have to stand there and squeeze the handle for the entirety of the fillup.

Nanny-state government at its best.

The vacuum assist hoses I've seen don't look any different on the outside than a standard flexsteel hose.

We're not required to use them here, so I install 11BP's and good ol' 5/8" goodyear flexsteel.

Most stations do that only if you can get gas after hours.

NY may be different.

You might be correct as ive only seen a few vapor recovery pumps but the hoses on them were nothing like a good ol flexsteel hose.

Continental/Contitech makes one that externally looks the same as a regular hose.

The balance vapor hoses, are the one with the ribs, these are vacuum assisted.
