Why is this a bad word now? I don't understand- if the definition of this word fits the person, why is it currently socially unacceptable for me to say this?
Is it because of the slang usage? Because that is how I use it mostly/ |

Sounds about right. PC feelgood bullshit. It's retarded.

So did I. I can never remember if it's an a or another i. Damned schwa. |

My wife works with disabled people, some of whom are actually mentally retarded, but most suffer from other mental disorders or TBI. If she would call her coworker a fuckin retard when they did something stupid, that might offend the guy in the room that's actually retarded.
We can control our dumb-assery, and comparing stupid behavior to a condition a person has no control of is kind of shitty. I only know this because I let "retard" slip on occasion and catch a dirty look. No, neither one of us are SJW's, it's just how she feels after working in this field for years. |

My daughter is a special Ed teacher. She's very sensitive to the word. This morning she sent a text that her dogs were barking at the snow falling. I replied back that "So glad Max and Blaze have a Special Ed teacher for a mom. Those retards need you." ![]() Pushing wife buttons never gets old |

@spartanatheart. ![]() I knew there was a reason you were in my ignore list...
I'm not denying or confirming anything, though I have wondered about it lately... The more I start to think, the more I realize mental stabilization is mostly an illusion we tell ourselves to convince us that people are something they aren't.
I am reminded of the John Adams quote, "the more eagerly I search, the more anxiously I inquire... the less I seem to know." |

When I first googled it I spelled it perjorative and thought ""Ha.......I FINALLY GOT JANE!!!" Then when I saw how it was correctly spelled I went " ![]() I had to google SJW. Not allowed to say "DUMB" - the correct saying is "learning impaired". I first heard that term used about 16 years ago when there were a few black churches set on fire in North Texas and the expected race baiters came into town demanding cracker pay. Ended up being a dumb black kid so the media had to spin the story to make him a victim.
Pretty stupid. |

There is no valid reason. We just need to come up with new words and label the old words as bad so that we can feel superior to our predecessors. It shows how caring, understanding, and compassionate we are.
It's the same reason "colored person" is offensive but "person of color" is not. Just another way for the SJW's to suck their own dicks. |

My ignition timing is retarded.
I guess i'm a neanderthal as I think retarded refers to anyone slower than functional. Had a lengthy discussion with my adult children at Christmas regarding use of the word retarded. Conclusion was there are better words to use. My Sons girlfriend is working on her masters in special needs teaching. She is very sensitive to the word retarded. |

The word has been used as a pejorative until it's clinical meaning has been completely overshadowed. But everyone here who isn't a window licking retard already knew that. Savage. Funny thing: I decided a few years ago that I would no longer use "retard/retarded" disparagingly. I still don't IRL, but I was finally forced to concede that I simply could not interact effectively with the people in GD without those words in my lexical armamentarium. |
