I definitely would not want to be watching that parade while wearing a yarmulke.

Did Chile pick up a bunch of German Hugo Boss suits at a garage sale?

As someone who wears Ordnance Crimson (aka dark pink) on his uniform, I've always liked the Royal Hussars' uniform, since they were awarded the honour of wearing crimson trousers when they escorted Prince Albert to his wedding with Queen Victoria in 1840.
Attached File Overview of regimental dress here. (I hope this entry was up to snuff for a primuspilum thread. ) |

Who are the guys that wear leather aprons? French maybe? ETA, French Foreign Legion Sappers. Aprons, beards and axes. https://goo.gl/images/OIWpoQ View Quote Crown pioneer sergeants wear leather aprons, are allowed beards, and the symbol of their position is a fucking axe. I think the French foreign legion has a similar position. |

I can't think of any off hand that I like. No reason to leave us out as though we were in the running. I always felt like a city bus driver in my green polyester Class A/B's.

Gadaffii's body guards had some nice uniforms. Can't find a pic though.

View Quote Those uniforms are incredibly kick-ass! I personally really like the British Household Cavalry units - the Blues & Royals, and the Life Guard. |

A Chilean Mountain Guard (reservist) unit marched in a Chilean bicentennial parade with mules, pack howetzers, and equipment that looked like WWI surplus... all looking fully functional. Pretty sure the mules knew their jobs.

View Quote For whatever reason, almost the entirety of the U.S. military made the temporary wartime discontinuation of wear of true dress uniforms permanent in the several years following the war by discontinuing those uniforms. The Marines still use something decent, although both officers and enlisted men used to have fancier uniforms as well (especially officers; the more formal enlisted uniform only had minor differences from the type currently in use). Naval officers still use the dress whites which were mostly the same from service dress through special full dress in the prewar era (types of aiguillettes and sword belts worn, and whether or not a sword was mandatory or not, constituted the differences between the different levels of uniform for the whites). Everything else is gone. At least most European countries kept their more formal uniforms around. |

Guy on the left forgot his belt. Are some of those guys under 5 feet tall? He's got a belt. The leather is lighter in colour for some reason. It kind of got tucked in under the armour. You can see the bottom edge of the buckle and a bit more of the belt in the photo. |

Guy on the left forgot his belt. Are some of those guys under 5 feet tall? It's almost entirely under his armor. IIRC, the way the armor is issued is a new Guard shows up and hopes there's something available in the armory that at least kinda sorta fits. So it never fits right and kinda sucks. A Priest blogger I read (Father Z, also a gun guy) raised money to get a custom fit breastplate for a Guard (has St. Joseph on one side, St Joan of Arc on the other). It cost over $6k to make. http://wdtprs.com/blog/2015/05/swiss-guard-amour-project-new-photos-from-the-swearing-in-ceremony/. So normally guys apparently just deal with poorly fitting metal armor for the times they have to wear it. Their armory is basically some weird collectors dream. http://www.guns.com/2014/04/13/guns-swiss-guard/ The MKMO subguns are kinda neat though. |
