I'm dragging myself into the modern world. My new truck does not have a CD player, but it does have media port.

I have a lot of music files on my computer in various file types (WMA, MP3). What type of device would be good for bringing a lot of music with me?

Old android phone is cheap and easy.

Not many good MP3 player options left other than Sandisk  and Sony.

For high quality but reasonable price, Fiio

iPod is also fairly affordable and easy.

Astell & Kern AK380 Copper...

Be all you can be.

Me?  I have a 40gb 2004 iPod Gen. 4 that I rebuilt last year!

What brand is your vehicle?  I'm assuming you are talking about USB when you say "port"?

GM cars/trucks will play straight off of a thumb drive.   I put a ton of random music from my ripped collection onto a 64G tiny thumb drive and have left it in pretty much since I got the car.   I think I removed it once to add a couple new albums to it.

Ford is the whole "Microsoft Support", and Mopar is the iPHone support.   GM supports all of them , and I think Ford will also read the folders on a thumb drive and just play them.

Audible supports GM cars and trucks to put DRM audiobooks onto the thumbdrive to listen to as well.    No unweildy cables.

Most of the new media-friendly head units accept a USB drive and will read it for audio/media.

Just throw all your tunes on a flash drive and viola.

Another vote for a flash drive.  I have a 64GB in my car that was dirt cheap and it's dead easy to update with new albums from any computer.

Wow - I didn't know these things would play from a flash drive now.

Thanks for the info. BTW, it's a 2016 RAM 1500. (Yeah, I know there's a lot of Dodge hate, bit I've personally always had good experiences with them).

Have you tested the flash drive as input device on your stereo yet?    Just throw a couple songs on there from a YouTube or other tune and see if it works.   If you have the full display, you may bea ble to watch youtube videos offline even.

Then:  Get some books from audible.com   Guns, Germs, and Steel is a nice historical one that melts away drive time while enlightening you.   There are a LOT like that.

Though I have found I'm enjoying history more and more as of my life is history.

I've acquired sudden headphone-autodestruct-itis, so I haven't been able to listen to an audiobook in many months.    I'm eagerly awaiting the day armored cables that are proof against parrot beaks are available.  All I need is a standard set, with some tiny spring steel ring mail all the way around the wires, buttons, and connectors.   Guy even ripped my 'indestructible' G-shock to shreds.

You should get a Zune for on the go.

The Zune HD I had was leagues better than any other audio device I have ever used.

Now I just use my phone, either Apple or Android, whichever flavor is newer when I need a new phone. The Sync system in my cars connects via bluetooth because it's almost 2017.
