Most of us have co-workers. Many of us have idiot co-workers, and wonder why management wont fire them and hire someone capable of doing the job.
I only have a job because a lot of people here suck at their job. Would you take a pay cut if it meant better co-workers? I'd take a 10% pay cut if the company would fire the idiots and hire good people. Would you do that? |

I bet management would love to be able to fire people but thanks to frivolous lawsuits they have books of policies to follow, documenting problems, offering an improvement plan etc.
That just for a regular firing, things get a lot more complicated if the employee is non-white, female, disabled, over 40........ |

Of course, but that doesn't answer my hypothetical. |

As someone who is part of the hiring and recruiting process, because there isn't anyone more capable. I know the reply will be "you don't pay enough" "your benefits suck" "something about your company sucks" and I get that, but it's just not true in our case. We pay equal or better than similar employers in our geographic area, our health benefits were run of the mill pre-Obama care, but are pretty phenomenal these days (just hired someone away from their current employer because their deductible went up to $6,000. Ours is $2,000 and the company pays half, so net deductible to employee is $1,000). But holy shit it's like scraping the bottom of the barrel out there. I almost want to hire anyone who can fill out an application completely, without lying, as that typically puts them in the top 5% of applicants. And it's only going to get worse. I'm already seeing trends in our market that sales are going to be up likely 25% next year compared to this year, and I can't keep up now. |

Management won't admit that they made a mistake in making the original hires. I sure as hell will. I'm more worried about being able to replace an employee that's say, 50% effective, with one who is more effective, while having 0% effectiveness in the meantime. |

At least in Texas we don't have to deal with that. Very easy to fire someone for any reason (that isn't discriminatory) and not have any legal repercussions. |
