[ARCHIVED THREAD] - f 150 (Page 1 of 2)

| I'm considering a new f 150 with the 2.7 twin turbo v 4x4. Regular cab short bed. It's what I want except I'm not sure about the 2.7. My question is ...fo or no? |
| They run well. Ok on towing power. But the aluminum (if you choose to go that way) makes it light, which would be great if the wind on the highway didn't blow you around like a kite. In my opinion, go with a hemi. I just switched from chevy to ram and Ill never go back. |
| I can't comment on the 2.7 as I have the 5.0 but I can say I LOVE my F-150. SO comfortable and easy to drive. Idiots will be along shortly to tell you to get the long bed even though you don't want/need it. I also have the short bed, and have never once wished I had the long bed. |

Having driven both models quite a lot, I can say that the 5.0 is going to get the job done a lot better.
The claims of wonderful mileage on the turbo motors must be under the most optimal circumstances, because I have never gotten anywhere close to the claimed amount. Turbo-lag on such a small motor also makes towing a lot jerkier and the maintenance is more intensive than the N/A trucks. |
I have a 2015 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and I love it. It's very comfortable (it's a King Ranch) and has a very nice ride. I took it on a trip to Key West this summer and drove about 18 hours there and 18 hours back and was not fatigued at all. I average between 16 and 17 MPG combined day to day driving and that's with me putting my foot in it quite often. I don't notice any turbo lag at all. It tows effortlessly. at least what I tow, a trailer with three quads. I've driven it in high winds and it does not get blown around . My wife and Kids absolutely love it. It's a Super Crew so the kids have a ton of room in the back, more than any other truck and I looked at them all before getting an F150.

I have that truck in supercab, 2016 model. Look, unless you plan on towing 5,000 pounds of rock or shit or a huge honking boat or RV around, the engine is PLENTY powerful enough. It is powerful enough that when you punch the pedal you will feel the p-o-w-e-r. It certainly has some nice acceleration (far more than any V6 that I have ever seen).
Figure out what you want/need to do with the truck and go from there. It's a damn nice truck. For me, it is the best vehicle that I have ever owned. |

I have a 2015 F150 crew cab with the 2.7 eco. Absolutely fantastic truck/motor. I average 22 mpg mixed, and saw as high as 24 during last year's trip to Florida, hand-calculated. It's also very, very quick for a pickup. Don't hesitate to get the 2.7, you won't be disappointed in any way.
If you have any specific questions, let me know. Note: I am a Ford truck guy, and always have been. This is my third. |
Thanks for the replies. I didn't drive the truck yet, working all the time. I do like the looks of it.I was mostly wondering about performance and gas mileage and long-term problems with the turbos. I'm a Ford man, always have been although I've had a corvette and older classic chevys. Mostly mustangs and ford trucks though. With f 150 being my favorites. Right now I have a 97 f 150 bought new. 4x4 regular cab long bed. It's been my favorite of all the vehicles I've ever owned. I'd like a v8. In this regular cab short bed, but I guess that can't be. Ya can't always get what you want.

| Watch some videos on the 2.7 vs 3.5 on youtube. The 2.7 pretty much hangs with the 3.5 in 0-60 times. The 3.5 can tow more though cause of it's crazy torque. 2.7 is no slouch though and is faster than the 5.0. Yeah im shopping them too, think ill prob get the 2.7 or 3.5 leaning towards the 3.5 just cause of the crazy power numbers and it's only 1k more |

Even the regular 3.5. |

I want a twin turbo Coyote personally. |

One thing to remember in a regular cab is that the short bed is 6.5 feet long, the same short bed you get with an extended cab where is most of the 4-door F-150 come with the 5.5 foot bed and very rarely with a 6.5 foot bed.
As for the person that suggests the 3.5 EcoBoost, that engine might not be available in the regular cab 4x4 short bed, it is not available in the two wheel drive version but is available in the long bed 4 wheel drive version for sure as I'm looking at one right now. If I had the money for a new truck, I would have no issues buying the 2.7 liter in an F-150 as I would never need to know anything heavy. That being said, the 2.7 liter will still so impressive amount, just not crazy about like the 3.5 EcoBoost. Another thing to look for is something they call a payload option. It cuts the EPA rated miles per gallon by two in just about every engine and configuration. Where the 2.7 2 wheel drive is rated for 26 miles per gallon highway, if it has the payload option it drops it down to 24. I would find the exact name of that package, but it's almost 4 a.m., and it's cold as shit outside so I'm going to sit in my nice warm truck instead of reading window stickers LOL |

Nice. The 5.0 ain't no slouch either. And sounds sweet when you stick your foot in it.
I have a 2015 S-crew fx4 with a 5.0. Love it.Attached File |
Race Red is hotter than two girls kissing
My dealership has 260 F150s. 237 crew cabs 22 extended cabs 1 standard cab They had a 2wd 2.7 that sat for a month or two. A 5.0 and several 3.5 (non-ecoboost) that sat since the spring, finally selling the last one by the end of November. The one standard cab is a 4wd 8ft bed with the 3.5 ecoboost and fx4. Not bad for a single guy (or as a 3rd/4th car), but not doable for a family. |

| Dad has a 2.7, loves it. Gets 21mpg with mostly city driving. CCSB 4x4. The 5.0 is getting phased out, per the ford regional reps. I'm ford master certified, they're just trying to get everybody on the ecoboost wagon. 5.0 is mostly for the old timers that gotta have a v8 and don't understand turbos. |
|
I have a '16 cc/4x4/short bed and the 2.7. It tows my 7500 travel trailer with no issues. You can't tow in od but a 5.0 won't either. I am getting about 3 mpg worse than the ecodiesel I traded for it when commuting. At this point I don't think there is anything I miss about the ecodiesel other than towing mpg. Even the factory tires are better than the Ram factory tires.
There is almost no turbo lag with the 2.7 in my truck. The lighter truck op is looking at should be even better. That configuration should be pretty fast. Like someone else posted 36 gallon fuel tank for the win. |
