Wife is headed there Wednesday for a business trip. I knew guns were off limits so she will not be checking hers but I also know people sometimes get a little stabby over there. I thought about sending her with one of my folders or a fixed blade if the folder would be a problem. Nope even that will get her arrested if found based on my research. The US is awesome. |

Well, it's a little more awesome since November 9, 2016. |

Ireland is actually a pretty cool place. The gun laws do suck but like most places most of it is very safe, wandered into some sketchy areas in Dublin but most of the smaller cities seemed pretty decent. The Irish are most decent Europeans you'll meet and they look at america as family because more Irish live in america than ireland |

How exactly does a knife offer protection from a knife? Maybe send her with a baseball bat, or armor, or a spear. What about a homemade blackjack... |

I just went to Ireland last month. Short of walking by herself at three in the morning while drunk, she will be just fine. We were there the last of August this year. She should be OK in a group around the major cities. I wouldn't wander too far from the bright lights and hotels, though.
They like Americans and their money. |

I went Ireland last year and carried my (non spring assist) folding knife with me. I just dropped it all the way into my pocket instead of using the clip so it wasn't in view of anyone. From reading the law, there was an exception for employment or recreation. I use my knife for so many various tasks and projects and recreation and even cutting apples and other food for the kids that I felt I could reasonably explain my need to keep it with me. Not that that's any sort of guarantee that I wasn't in the wrong, but I also wasn't going to be doing anything to draw attention to myself either. I didn't come across any metal detectors either.
The UK is a whole other ball of wax though and I wouldn't even think about carrying a knife there. |

Yeah all my folders are spring assist, they are legal in my state. She is going there for business as a travel agent, I don't think that would fly at all if it was discovered. Quoted:
