You would be much better off with an AimPoint or EOtech.  If you think about how you might use your rifle in a real defensive situation, a great many of them would involve you standing/laying in a dark area and shooting into a brighter one.  The Reflex's reticle disappears in this situation, because the tritium isn't bright enough to light the reticle unless it is truly DARK, and the fiber optic collectors on the front won't collect enough light when you're in the shade.  Plus, the lense is blue-tinted, which affects the way you see colors, and makes everything darker.

The battery issue, *especially* with the AimPoints, is really a non-issue.  An AimPoint battery will give you at least 1,000-2,000 hours of realistic use, and when it finally begins to die, it will give you plenty of notice.  Replacements are $5, and the lithium battery has a 10 year shelf-life, which is about the same lifespan of the tritium insert of the Reflex.  Replacing that insert costs nearly the entire cost of the optic, BTW.

It's a standard ARMS #22M68 AimPoint ring, but with the just-released Cantilever spacer, which right now are only available from Wes at [url]mstn.biz[/url].  If you already have the ARMS ring (many people do, and use the standard vertical spacer), all you need is the Cantilever spacer, which runs at $30.  Aside from the normal advantages of the ARMS mount (rock-solid, throw-levers for very quick removal and replacement), this mount can be reconfigured by adding/replacing/removing the spacer, so that if you later decide to install a railed handguard, the ARMS mount will still work for you.

There are a number of AimPoint vs. EOtech threads in the Optics forum.  Both have advantages and disadvantages.  I *personally* prefer the AimPoint, as it is more flexible with regards to the configuration of your rifle, and it is FAST for me.  But I would not at all hesitate to pick an EOtech-equipped rifle if an AimPoint was not available, and the EOtech does indeed have a few advantages (it's the better optic for use in conjunction with a weapon-mounted night-vision optic, for example).
