One of the filipino tactical ones with extended beavertail and novak sights. Rock Island and one other company import them for around 500. My local shop is 549 for a new "Tactical" and that is exorbitant Cali prices. |

I have a ATI Thunderbolt FX. Think I paid around $425 for it. It's a half rail gun, with adjustable sights. I've fired around 500 flawless rounds, hollow point, ball. The only thing I changed was I ditched the full length guide rod. http://www.americantactical.us/Public/images/product/ATIGFX45THUN_1.jpg That looks nice |

Also check out Metro Arms American Classic 1911 - another option from the Philippines This. It's better than the Rock Island and comes with a lot of the "extra" stuff folks purchase for their 1911's. I have 3 1911's, all range toys. Glocks are for real world use. |

RIA 1911's in 45 acp use standard parts. But most 1911's require hand fitting if you swap stuff out. Springs, standard bushings, the standard guide rod(not full length) are usually interchangeable. Series 70 or 80? These guys say 70 http://armscor.com/firearms/rock-series/ |

This is what you desire.....RIA tactical 5" govt. 45....$459

That's what I was leaning towards. I wanted to know if these Turkish guns were worth the gamble. |

My Citadel 9mm 1911 was a shooting machine. All it needed was better sights(provided by a previous owner), and knocking down some of the sharper edges on the controls, and it was perfect. I used an electric chain saw sharpener (cheaper more ghetto than a dremel) knocking down the edges on my Springfield Mil Spec back in 1996. Probably a risky move but it was my gun and it turned out well. I also bobbed the hammer in the fashion of Col Jeff Cooper with a triangle file. Man that brings back the memories. |
