Because there are aq ops being conducted & staged from this AO. Stationed on the horn of Africa - I believe that there is/was an entire Marine TF there. I heard that they got sent to the sandbox shortly after the baloon went up, but it sounds like they are back in the neighborhood.

2/2 left for HOA on 02AUG02. They went from there to Iraq and back to Camp Lejeune. It was a 9 month float.

The Frogs garrison a Foreign Legion regiment there permanently, and rotate a few brigades in and out in Djibouti. That, and foreign aid handouts from France, is basically all that supports that godforsaken country. Imagine if you were assigned to the permanent regiment. Five years in Djibouti, and no escape.

But did you know that there is a lake Assal deep in the heart of djibute? Someone told me that the dingleberrys grow thick there.
Would you know it if I was parking a bus in Djibute? I bet you would know if I was eating a ham and cheese sandwich in Djibute! |

Djibouti - Is the former "French Territory of the Afars & Issas. French had one side of the mouth of the Red Sea mouth and the Brits the other. Used to keep one of their carrier battle groups there, and for a long time the only "Allied" Carrier Battle Group in the IO was the French. Much friendlier to the US than the other side.
