Why does it appear that the BBC are the only ones still producing science shows?
I haven't had cable for many years. I only have Netflix, Hulu and amazon prime. But it seems on netflix, the only cool science documentaries are produced by the BBC. Is American TV that much in the shitter? |

American "network" science programs are terrible.
There was some stuff on NPR on my drive in about abandoning conventional math & equation based science teaching in favor of some qualitative type of approach. I didn't hear the whole thing, but it sounded like a bad idea. Even at the end, they basically said, "but, we don't yet know how to test what they've learned". Ok, if these students can't answer conventional test questions on the subject, then, look, they really haven't learned much. Just sort of seems to be a trend of dumbing down for the customer instead of trying to advance the standard. |

I will concede some of the PBS shows are decent. Nova is hit and miss.
Frontline on PBS has been good lately. They've had a few shows on the rise of ISIS and put the blame square on US'S shoulders. The latest one is on the Paris attacks and harp on the lack of EU intelligence abilities and aren't shy about asking the questions about the failure... But america TV is just crap. I'd take the BBC any day. Even though they did fire Clarkson. |
