It's a Glock with a better grip, a stupid key lock and goofy sites. Peeps sights are also great on a rifle but would be as equally goofy on a handgun. It's a Steyr so it will be well made, durable and accurate. But it is still a goober gun like the Glock and SA XD. I strongly recommend you sell your Steyr and Glock and buy a USP.

The ones I played with (early models) all had feeding problems related to the loaded chamber indicator. These pistols are way over engineered.

Well, I went out with Mike and shot this gun yesterday, and all I can say is that it kicked ass and took names. First time I'd ever shot a .40, and I'm sold on it. I love the sights, and the "Minority Report" aesthetics of the gun. Goober gun? I have no idea what you're talking about. Doesn't sound like legitimate criticism to me though. Feeding problems? Hrumph....all I can say is that it performed flawlessly yesterday. Sounds like the "I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend a rumor about slides cracking on the Beretta 92FS." [rolleyes] For the money, this gun is a hell of a deal. Maybe it is a glorified Glock, but seeing as how I've always thought Glocks were ugly little critters, I'd take a amped-up Styer.

I'll elaborate a little more. I had two friends purchase Steyr M40s. I think this was late 1999. Both pistols seemed to struggle to feed rounds up the breach face due to the loaded chamber indicator. One of the owners removed the indicator and the pistol fed fine. These pistols had heavy 8 pound triggers. Both pistols where also dinging the top of the slide with extracted brass. One friend sold his pistol immediately and the other sent his back to Steyr. Steyr did change the extractor, refinish the slide and said they fixed the feeding problem. Pistol came back and it still didn't run well so he sold it as well. It just seemed like Steyr released these pistols with lots of bugs still in them. Then there was that rumor that Steyr was going out of business when their plant was purchased by BMW. This turned me off of considering them as a replacement for my Glocks. Maybe they now have all the bugs worked out.

Thanks for all the info Duke! I can't wait to get mine off of lay-away at my FFL! I found mags for like $28.11 at prebanmags.com, if anyone found them cheaper, let us know. There is also some very nice custom holsters out there for these beauties, I'll post the links later, if I find them. 556mm

Do any other Hi-cap mags come close to fitting that can be adapted? S&W, Berreta,Browning, or other Styer? The lack of a Hi-cap is what has kept me from considering a purchase. If the ban sunsets, maybe.... I've played with one at a gunshow and love the way the sights seem to align themselves. I wish somebody would make them for aother pistols.
