Im watching some geese eat grass in a field. There are 50-ish small to pretty big ones in one group, and ~13 big ones in another group. There is a good 100 ft between the two groups. Anyone know why two groups?

Lesser Canada geese in one group and Greater Canada geese in another. They intermix some but not all the time.

Probably just a local flock that always hangs out together choosing to be in family groups perhaps. That or the remaining grass availability in the field from being fed heavily is causing them to take certain patterns.

If you jut went over and told one to talk to you, you'd know.
Could be a different "group" that happened to be in the same area.
