Did you configure your DNS properly to use your Pi as your DNS server? Probably this. I had to point my router to the PiHole to use as the DNS server Yes Hmmmmm, on my test bed running internet explorer it seems to work |

Cleared your DNS cache? ipconfig /flushdns at command prompt. |

I didn't think the browser would be able to get around that. Try asking here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pihole/ |

I figured out the issue... For some reason my router is not passing out the correct DNS info
I've made the change rebooted the router, power cycled the router. I did change the lease times and that part is working right... so??? But the router is still handing out it's own IP as the IP for DNS So I need to figure out what going on that. That being said Pi-Hole works very nicely |

Make sure it's on a static ip locally to avoid any fuckery with that later on. In my case, I run the script on my router so I had to set it up to force clients to use the router as the dns. The script is configured for Google dns so once the ads are done I get my usual dns performance. |

I did that and still not working but if I set it in the client (computer) it works I think the issue is in the DHCH portion of the router. 99% of the reason I wanted this was because it would bring my tablet to a crawl so I just manually set it in the tablet. For now t it works but I still need to fix it. Thanks |

Does it work any better than running uBlock or AdBlock Plus in-browser? It's not really better or worse. It stops most of the ads from ever reaching you, so you do see a little speed boost from it. I use adblock in addition, mainly so I can use custom blocking functions to hide parts of webpages and such. It isn't really needed if you don't do that.

What about on ARFCOM? I have 3 MacBooks and one windows pc, on the pc I get ads on here but on the macs nothing. I rarely use the pc anymore anyway but still annoying If you are seeing ads here as a paid member (aside from the site sponsor buttons / banner ads), your computer is likely infected with something. |

How often do you need to update it's data store to ensure good blocking? Or does it not work that way? There's a message on their forum w/ commands for a chron job. The person who posted it said they have it setup to run weekly. It also has does apt-get update and upgrade and has an option to reboot at the end. Here's what they had posted. It's not mine, and I haven't tested it. # see outputs for testing: set -x sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get -y update sudo apt-get -y upgrade # <...some other stuff...> pihole -up # Want weekly restart?: # sudo reboot edited to add: I just put it in the daily cron folder and ran it manually to test it. I'll leave it there for a while and see how it does. |

My biggest problem so far is the lack of support for https pages. That means it does nothing for some of the worst offenders. Quoted:

nifty as heck. wish someone could package/APP this for pfsense/untangle My biggest problem so far is the lack of support for https pages. I haven't had a huge amount of time to mess w/ mine. I started w/ an original B, and found it sort of worked, but froze at 100% CPU when I loaded the web page to check how it was doing. Upgraded it to a model 2 I had on my desk and it's working. I see it blocking ads, but it doesn't seem to catch them on the bigger sites which all use https. I've looked online and there was something talking about how it didn't support https pages yet, but I could have run across an old page. I'm still impressed w/ what it does, and some of the mobile devices are probably going to benefit the most since I run adblock plus on my desktops. |

Get yourself an Apple Airport Extreme. I've had mine since 2008 and literally never had a problem with it. Never restarts unless it needs a config change. Good signal, works great. Would Buy Again, A+++
If you don't need AC, the 5th Generation version is fairly cheap on Amazon with high speed N. |

I may just set up the Pi to be a DHCP server or put my old router (with DD-WRT on it) up and use this one as an access point (since it has 5GHz) |
