I saw him open for the Who on their Who's Last? tour.

The Who lied about it being their last tour and Billy Squire had one good song.

I remember when he came out of the closet.  Shame that ruined his career on the spot, just not fair.

By all accounts he is straight.

I am a fan. I have always liked his music and have seen him live a few times.   He collaborated with Freddie Mercury several times and the results were amazing.

Oddly enough, he is one of the most sampled artists in Hip Hop and it has made him a pile of money.

Saw him in concert, I think it was in Fayetteville, NC in 1982 or 1983 when I was in the USMC. Open act was Saga. I still have a drumstick I caught from Squier's drummer. My friends and I had some pigs on our shoulders we were hoping to score with after the concert, but we struck out.

He had such a monster rock guitar sound on some of his songs.

I've never seen him live.
Hip hop? I did not know that (and I do listen to hip hop on rare occasion) I don't even really know about his Ringo connection, despite considering myself somewhat musically knowledgeable.

The best time was during his Happy Blue acoustic tour. He was playing small venues and even some famous record stores.  Among them, he played Waterloo Records in Austin. It was fantastic. There were about 100 people there and it was very intimate. Him, his guitar and a mic.  He is a very talented musician that sounds similar live to his studio albums.  He did a meet and greet and a little Q&A.

Yep. He was on top of the charts and overnight became a "who" from which he has never recovered.

There was definitely some nutsacks bouncing off chins on that tour bus. If you can make it through the first 3 1/2 minutes of Billy twinkle toeing Wham style you will see the rest of the band. Having said that, I saw Billy when he opened for Foreigner back in the early 80's... Still listen to Lonely is the Night on a regular basis.

I was there too. Thought Saga was better.  Great show by both bands though.

All accounts?
I worked with a guy from 99-02 who used to be a roadie for Enuff Znuff.  He said when they toured with Billy he was always hitting on their drummer, a really nice quiet guy who eventually got very aggravated with it.

So they all took a shit in Billy's stage costume trunk before a show.

Listen to Lonely is the Night and you'd swear it was John Bonham playing the drums -- imitation being a form of flattery.

He was doing great up until that one video.

I had some of his mid and late 80s music tapes. There would be 1 or 2 solid tunes in there, and the rest sounded like well-recorded demo tapes. They needed producing, but didn't get it. And if you asked me what tunes came off those tapes, I'd be at a total loss to tell you.

His early 80s stuff (The Stroke, etc.) Is what made, and broke him.
