I recently had a tire go flat just as I entered the Allegheny Tunnel. It is 1.15 miles long, two lanes, no shoulder. There was no way I was stopping in the tunnel to change my tire, so I rode it out. The tunnel filled with smoke and chunks of melted rubber were flying off and hitting the cars behind me and they still wouldn't stop riding my bumper.
I think I did the right thing by driving on it untill there was a safe place to pull off. |

Only morons drive on flats. All you do is tear your vehicle up and triple or more the cost of a new tire. Now if your in a situation where you can't stop. Drive under 20 till it is safe to get off the road. +1 I saw one on the freeway shoulder with the steel belt slapping the shit out of the fender. Nice way to turn a $100 issue into a $1k |

I blew a tire once. My new boss had asked me to drive the work van down to a different facility to pick up some gear. The tire pressure sensor on the main computer said that one tire was reading 0 psi (obviously there was something in it). I asked my boss if it was OK to drive, and he said it was normal.
The round trip that day was about 250 miles and on 249 and in sight of my office the tire blew. I thought I had driven over some gravel at first. I will pay close attention to tires from here on out. |

We towed a car into the shop quite a few years ago that a guy drove with a drivers side front flat. The tired shredded and tore out the plastic wheel wheel liner, then managed to grab ahold of the main wire harness that goes from under the hood through the firewall. It pulled the wires right out of the interior fuse block and wrapped them around the axle shaft. |

Many moons ago my pregnant wife called me in hysterics because her Explorer had a flat in a bad snowstorm on a multi-lane turnpike. The road was dangerous, and there were wrecks everywhere due to the late season storm.
She had been programmed by her Father years before not to drive on a flat under ANY circumstances, but in this situation her Father was wrong. If she didn't start moving she was going to get hit without question. It took me literally yelling at her to move her ass before she started driving on the flat. Her plan initially had been to park the Explorer, climb over the guardrail, and wait for help ... in a blizzard with cars careening off the damn road all around her. Fuck that. That bit of drama cost me a tire, wheel, ABS sensor, bearings, a rotor, and Christ only knows what else - I can't remember. That said, getting her off the highway in one piece was the priority - fuck the Explorer. There are times when you have to do what you have to do. ETA: I never told her how much it cost to repair the damage, and to this day she has no idea. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I had two blowouts on the same trip in a Tahoe 9 years ago. Driver side front went first then a few miles later the driver side rear went. They were Michelin LTX M/S with low miles and a couple of years old. No damage was done to the Tahoe.
Back in May I was pulling a trailer loaded with deer in my F-250 and had the driver side rear blowout. It destroyed the bed on the driver side, it made the wheel well twice as large as normal when you looked in the bed. |

how fast were you going? That seems excessive for 2 miles at a slow speed....
Dude, you just about made me choke on my breakfast.
