My sister bought one. Works and looks good.
With gas prices these days. That saturn goes twice as far and takes half the gas compared to my Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. |

I just donated a 95 SL2 to charity. Had a problem with the fuel pump once, but that was fixed under the warrenty. 148K on it. The trick is to regularly change the oil.
I would have bought another one, but I chose not to for two reasons. 1. Consumer reports only liked the VUE out of all the 2003 Saturns. 2. I wanted something with a little more horsepower. Saturns are great, but I wanted something fun If your biggest issue is the no haggle price, Here's how you get the invoice on a car. something to think on...
the 4cyl engine is weak. Put a free flow muffler on and an after market air induction system Also they will begin to burn oil around 100k. everyone i have seen has begun to lose the valve stem seals at around 100k. No big deal i just add a quart every 1200 miles. |

The wife has a Saturn…. Bought brand new in ’99… Never really had any major problems, we had (last week) to get a new fan motor and replace the belts (67,000 miles). Other then that’ it’s been your normal fix/replace car stuff (new battery, plugs, lube and oil changes!)
Been a pretty good little car, its put up and still dealing with a LOT of abuse! Wimmins generally are hard on cars, and the Saturn can take it. She can even take off in second gear from a dead stop! [rolleyes] And I know damn well the gear ratio ain’t that high… [rolleyes] |

For what it's worth, I was told that Saturn will absolutely NOT sell you the factory repair manuals for a Saturn.
I have never had the chance to substantiate this, so I suggest you just call the parts department and ask them about prices and delivery. Then if you really want to buy the car, make delivery of the vehicle contingent on delivery of the manuals.The last vehicle I bought had one for the engine, another for the chassis, drivetrain & suspension, and yet another for the emissions, diagnosis, etc. |

I have a 2000 SL. No major problems. Just change the oil. To get better power from them, just add an aftermarket exhaust (I hear dynoflows work great) and AEM makes a cool intake for them as well. I get about 32 MPG on mine. Read more at the forums at:

My only complaint about Saturn is that they dont make a full-size truck.
Never had a problem with ours and it drives like it did when it was new... hell, I should'nt have said that. The wife is on a cross-country trip right now.... LB |

My brother buys them used for commute cars. He always has two on hand and replaces them every 3 years or so. He has saved a fortune on repairs and gas. If something major is in need of repair, he just offs the car and buys another used one.

Mom has a 91 SL1 w/93k. I would buy another one. Had a few things that needed to be done, but for a "first model year" I think its been a great car. My Grandfather bought it new the day the new dealer opened up.
For those of us that like working on our own vehicles, this car is quite simple to work on. |

Wife and I work at the same place so for 2 - 3 years we have been commuting together with one car. Got to the point where we needed another car if we were going to continue talking to each other, I wanna go here, I have practice bla bla bla. So we got a suprise bonus from work and we got a used 96 Saturn with 193k on it. Obviously it was a commuter car but it ran fine. So in one year we have put 10k on it, spent half as much on fuel and our insurance is cheaper because we only have liability on the car and the jeep is now the "recreation" vehicle. So I am very happy with the Saturn. It could use more power but hey that is not what it is for. I may take Beerslayers advice and mod it but then I'll probably blow it up.

Only problem is that a big guy like me (6'4") cannot fit into most Saturns. I am not sure why they make them so small. I can fit into a Honda Civic no problem.

Not so proud owner of a 1996 SL2 which I bought brand new. Now has 49,000 miles and: New alternator, two battery's, water pump, hood release and one of the belts. Not as good a car as the 1981 Toyota Corolla that was waffled by a drunk driver. That had 141K's and was stolen with 91K and recovered by us when we went looking on the streets of Philadelphia, PA. Would not buy another.

We have a 96 SC2 with 112K on it.
I can concur with the oil burning after 100K. I've been looking for an oil leak but will stop after learning about this today. Added 2 quarts 3 months ago and just added some more a week ago or so. Overall it is a good car. The auto lock/trunk receiver went bad a long time ago but we've had no major problems. Just had a new battery put in last week. Also the no dent body is a plus, especially if you have a wife like mine that thinks the Saturn is a M1A Abrams. The major drawback is the lack of horsepower (only around 100/110 HP if I remember). |

I am looking at the Saturn Vue. I have a 1996 blazer with a lot of miles. Nice truck but I did drop a lot of money into it in repairs. I am a mechanic so parts were the only thing, (my labor was paid with rifles!!)
I need a small/midsize SUV for some light duty snow travel every winter. Good gas mileage is a plus. Wife doesn't want another Blazer and I want to stay with GM so I am thinking Saturn. 0% for up to 5 years AND $1000 rebate. Hard to say no. |

dude i wouldnt be caught dead in a saturn. if you want reliability and fuel economy get a honda. if you hate jap cars get a ford focus. if you hate fords and or focus' try a vw golf or jetta. if you hate all of the above, still do not get a saturn. for the love of God if it says anywhere on the car "saturn" or "pontiac" or "cavalier" or "escort" DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON IT. -Spaceman |

I have driven the same Saturn 2-door SC1 since August of 1994. Just recently crossed the 107,000 mile mark. Except for the normal car maintenance (battery, oil changes, belt, tires), and replacing the alternator, I have never had a single problem with the car. It has performed great, gotten me where I needed to go, and generally done everything I have ever asked of it. And after all these years, it still looks pretty good to, considering I haven't taken care of it the way I should.
I have no illusions about what Saturns are. They're not sports cars. If that's what you want, and you have $50,000 to spare, then by all means go out and get yourself a Corvette. It's not a truck either - again, if that's what you want, go for it. Saturns are extremely reliable economy cars - no they don't have a lot of power, and mine doesn't take hills very well. If power is what you need, then Saturns are probably not for you. I will agree that Saturns don't seat big & tall people very well. Not a lot of leg room. It's never been an issue for me, since I'm only 5'9. As for these snide remarks about Saturns being only for women and homosexuals - please, grow up. |

We've owned Saturns for the past ten years, now have midsize Saturn wagon with a six- [b]best damned car I ever owned[/b]. It goes everywhere, hauls all kinds of stuff and kids around to US and Canada, no problems.
Many years ago, I used to work on cars- tune-ups (Distributors!- points!-carburetors!) changed engines, pumps, rear ends, clutches, brakes, did electrics, valve grinding, etc. That stuff gets real old, real fast when you have a family and responsibilities. My gear head days are long past, thank you very much- let the dealer eat the problems on the warranty (which we actually pay for, from any manufacturer- it's incuded in the price)- no mechanical problems, no hassle, no bullsh*t. I also used to work for a VW/Toyota dealer years ago, both repairing and then selling cars. The experience left me jaded about the auto industry. Car dealers are crooks, period. If Saturn dealers are crooks, they are subtle, and they don't leave you feeling like you've been in a prison cell with Mike Tyson by the time they are done with you...[shock] Used to own the smaller Saturns, they are kind of cramped for stout people, but most Americans are too fat anyway- go on a diet, for chrissakes! [:D] Wife wants to get a VUE. Cool- better than that damned minivan she drives now....I hate minivans- gimme a station wagon any day. |
