[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SYSTEM OF A DOWN (Page 1 of 2)

Actually liked them quite a bit. Then I figured their politics out and stopped listening to them. I do the same with any other band whose politics i just don't agree with. I mean, if its just a couple small things that i would differ with them on that would be different. But with System of a Down its basically everything. Their politics disgust me and they're basically Bernie in band form.
In conclusion: good music, fucking terrible message and politics. meh. |

Dont like their politics but i like their music. You can sum it up with one interview they did years ago. Serj tankien said that obama had too much resistance from the right wing and it would take a stronger far more left wing president for true reform. He uses the words "socioeconomic" and "disenfranchised" a lot. That tells you what you need to know. |
| I remember buying their self titled album in 98' before they got much radio play, my friends in college were all "what, the, fuck?". It's the midwest, so half of them couldn't handle Metallica or NIN, you know. I usually calmed their nerves with Cake's Fashion Nugget. |

Hate the politics. Love the music...especially when lifting.
I find that there would be very little for me to listen to (other than Megadeth) or watch (other than John Milius) if I limited myself to artists with whom I agree politically. That being said, I still can't bring myself to listen to Rage Against the Machine, even though I love the tunes. They're just such pretentious dicks about their politics. |

I saw them at ozzfest around 2006 I believe? They did a version of Dire Straits' "sultan's of swing". But they changed "sultan's of swing" to "system of a down". It was awesome.
I also saw Marilyn Manson sing into a microphone stuck in a girls ass. It was awesome as well. Good times... |
