What are some good options for 20-30 gun safes? I prefer to buy it online and have it delivered, so bear that in mind. |
|
I've never owned one myself, but I've read a lot of good things about Sturdy Safe over the years:
https://www.sturdysafe.com/ I'm looking to upgrade, too. I'm thinking about giving them a shot. They look low on polish but high on construction. Hope somebody comes along with some actual experience with Sturdy Safes. |

When the time comes to add another I plan to order from Sturdy Safe again. |

Quoted: Can't go wrong with Liberty. Mine are Cabella's models. You don't get to pick and configure it all, but the price is right. Eta: buy bigger than you think you need. The gun ratings are for size are guns stacked tight with no optics. |

Quoted: Get on Craigslist and buy a real safe for less than you'll pay for a sheet metal box at a big box store. It's a hassle and you'll need some ingenuity to move it but it's not half as bad as you think. I scored a Graffunder for $800... Had a friend and his construction crew move it for me. |

Quoted: 20-30 gun safe? Get a 40 gun safe. Seriously, figure out what you (think you) need...then get one bigger than that. Quoted: Quoted: What are some good options for 20-30 gun safes? I had to put an interior in it, but it only cost me $425 or $450. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Quoted: Having guns in a $5000 safe vs. a $500 safe has nothing to do with protecting a home and keeping some SD/HD weapons accessible. Great job there Chas Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Insurance policy is cheaper. You are right, so when someone breaks into you house, steals your guns. Just look firearms insurance near the coast. And tell me what is cheaper of the coarse of 10 years.. |

General rules for safe buying:
1) buy American; Liberty are great, Ft. Knox's reputation precedes them as well 2) the thicker doors generally equate to a shit-quality safe. 3) If you need room for 20 rifles, you'll need a 50-60 gun safe, minimum. As a sub rule to my primary schedule of rules, whatever the manufacturer advertises as the firearm count, you need to divide that number by at least 2, but I have found 3 is a more realistic number. Unless you plan on taking your optics, bipods and other shit hanging on your rifles off each time they go into the safe, you could probably squeeze a fair amount of rifles into a 50 gun. First safe I owned was one of those Costco Sentry "16 gun" safes. It held six rifles without bipods and had to take the scope off of one. I have a Liberty "64 gun" safe. If I stripped every damn thing off of every rifle I own(ed...boating accident of 2013), I could probably cram 30 full size rifles in there but that would definitely include scratches and other unnecessary marks on the rifles. I'd call it 22-24 rifles that could fit in there nicely. ETA - I think that they use those little single-shot Crickets when they are doing their evaluations of how many rifles a specific safe can hold. I could probably fit 60-70 of those things in my Liberty. |

I saw a Liberty and Winchester at Tractor Supply which is what got me thinking. I expected that if I post them here, you guys will tell me they suck or they are ok, or where to get a better price, etc.. |

If you can afford it, Sturdy Safe. If not, just make sure that it's 10 gauge steel or thicker. I did my homework and got a Sturdy and so did my friend. Dollar for steel it was the best value I found. Don't need the shiny paintjob, give me thicker fucking steel. I got fire liner, an inner steel liner and a stainless plate around the handle. Pretty much the only company where you can kinda build your own safe. I think they're 7 ga. The best trick to stuffing the fucker with guns is to go to Midway and put all your rifles in the felt or cloth SOCKS so they don't get scratched up. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/939498831/midwayusa-silicone-treated-tactical-rifle-gun-sock |

I'm considering getting on from here

The answer is how much money do you have to spend on it vs willing to let go in stuff.
Almost everyone who has a safe, will recommend what they bought. Those with the cash will buy the best that they think is reasonable. Those with little funds, will buy what they think is reasonable. Anything is better than nothing. Watch some of the Sturdy videos for performance of the box store variety. With enough cash, one may start worrying about load on the foundation, then how to get the beast into the house or move it when moving. Lots of factors. Kinda like why you have what you are wanting to put into it. |

Another vote for Sturdy. At some point, when you get past the level of a Sturdy, it's overkill. Unless you have a stash of diamonds or millions in gold and cash, IMO, you won't need one of the TL rated safes. They're heavy and expensive and a Sturdy will stop 99.9% of your typical gun thieves. |
|
Most gun safes are RSCs, residential security containers. It means a crook with hand tools and a 18" prybar would take at least 5 minutes or longer to break into.
Sturdy and Fort Knox are forum favorites for RSCs. AMSEC makes RSCs and TL15 rated safes which take 15 minutes or longer to break into with power tools, so does Brown safe but they are both expensive and heavy. If you are looking for something to protect smash and grab you'll be fine with nearly any RSC. If you're going against a burglar that knows you have guns and came with a pry bar you'll want a heavier gauge steel from a reputable manufacturer. If you value your collection and want to keep out a guy with power tools TL15 to TL30 would take a lot longer. Liberty is nice but their most secure safe is more or less comparable to Fort Knox's mid tier lines. |

Since my safe is full I've been looking for something to expand my collection into. The long gun storage is a pain in a full safe. So I wanted a better solution without getting a 3000 lb monstrosity to break my floor. That's when I found Pendleton Safes with the carousel feature, and I'm thinking about some thing like this:
