Quoted: The fucking use of the fucking term over-rated on fucking Arfcom is fucking over-rated Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Over-rated Highly. The fucking use of the fucking term over-rated on fucking Arfcom is fucking over-rated No kidding. The Clash were the one of the most quintessentially British bands ever and their influence is still being heard today. Hell I'd even go so far as to say that they (along with Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath) influenced more bands than the Beetles or Rolling Stones did, and definitely when it comes to non-pop music. Those 3 bands helped spawn two entirely new genres of music, over-rated bands at best have a few cover bands playing their stuff (badly) at a county fair. |

The Clash are the quintessential bubble gum punk band. No comparison between them and Black Sabbath can be made. I wouldn't go so far as to call them bubble gum punk... And the reason you can't compare them is because it would be like comparing apples and bricks. |

I have to wonder though, if the 101ers would have been just as successful had Joe Strummer stayed with them rather than going to the Clash? |

Strummer needed Jones for the music, Jones needed Strummer for the lyrics. Together they formed one of the greatest rock writing duos ever. |

I've always respected Jones for telling Strummer to go fuck himself when he approached him about getting the band back together. |

It's really too bad Joe is gone. I even liked his Big Audio Dynamite days, as well as The Mescaleros too. He was a very talented man. |

Mick didn't need him. |

I saw them with The Who at Shea Stadium. They were much better than I anticipated.
The highlight of that show was not The Who or The Clash or whoever was the opening act (that tells you how memorable they were.) It rained that afternoon and the groundskeepers put the tarps on the field. It rained some more as we waited for the concert to start. The tarp on the third base line was mostly a puddle and the crowd was mostly drunk. Biggest fucking slip and slide in the world! It was worth it just watching those guys have at it until the show started. |

It rained pretty hard for a while and we were getting worried that they might cancel the concert. |
