Have you ever heard the term? What do you consider a straw boss?
I deal with a lot of contractors at work and it seams like when I ask a guy lower in the ranks what the plan is they say "you'll have to ask so and so, but he's just a straw boss". They say it almost with a jealous attitude. I always thought straw boss was a Forman that maybe hadn't been a Forman very long. |
| A straw boss? He's the guy left in charge when the boss takes off. He usually has no authority and no pay for it. He's either a snitch, or more preferably the one guy who knows what he's doing and is trusted by the boss to not let the crew screw up. His attitude pretty much determines whether or not the crew follows him. |

There's a guy on my team who ranks lower than me but wishes beyond all else to be management. It's extremely annoying.
Like if someone posts an off-topic link in the product discussion channel of our chat software, he reprimands them and tells them to use the off-topic discussion. Even when the actual team leads are the ones doing it. |
